The “chlorinated” part of chlorinated solvents is not long for this world. The combination of nonflammability, no VOC, and high solvency is soon to be history, replaced with highly flammable acetone-based solvents.
I just took delivery of case of CRC Lectra Motive cleaner. While it’s not brake cleaner, it’s still Percholorethane (PCE) based, and it’s to date the best generally purpose cleaner I have found for removing residues.
I got some for removing flux residue from solder joints, and it absolutely excelled at that.
Long term, I think I’m going to be buying a small fleet of SureShot Sprayers. These will in turn be filled with everything from odorless mineral spirits to xylene to whatever else I can actually get hold of.
