Funny, I had a '96 Aurora as well. My current STS is the only one that's given me any (engine) trouble, though. Here's my last 2, I can't believe I still have pictures of them!

And my '94 that I bought way back when I was 20ish with a bad trans but otherwise showroom fresh:

Just for fun, here's the minty '91 Regal GS I picked up years and years ago. I really liked this one....

I love that pearl white color of your Cadillacs. That's one of my favorite car colors.

Yep, a 96 here as well. That was a great car, though I wonder what I would have been in for if I did not trade it in.

Now the STS was 3 years old with 40k miles when I got it and I had fuel pump alternator, starter, electrical, and random misfire issues from 55k miles until I sold it at 81k miles. Only time I ever kept a car less then 50k because of the obvious depreciation hit but no amount of money was worth that [censored] Caddi leaving me stranded again. Thanks for reminding me how much I liked that Aurora, for 96 it was a pretty awesome car.

We had the L47 they nicknamed it the Shortstar.

Before she moved away, I had a customer that had a 95 Aurora with the shortstar. Leaked oil everywhere and 220k miles on it but ran pretty darned good. Sounded really nice on the throttle too - I even asked her if she had anything done the exhaust, but nope, like that from the factory. She drove that thing everywhere and vowed to keep it until the bitter end

Just so everyone knows, the 4.0 Aurora engine was never called the "Shortstar". That was the 3.5 V6 that was kinda sorta based on the N* design. The 4.0 is just a small bore 4.6 with the hot 4.6 Vin 9 cams from the factory. You can drop a 4.6 into a 1st Gen Aurora turn-key. Many do, in fact.

I really liked this Caddy despite its alarming amount of oil it burned and leaked for most of its life. Never had a headgasket failure but Coolant Crossover leaked and torque converter began to throw a code intermittently and wouldn't pass smog. Sold it cheap and it was in a hit and run a few days later. Sad ending.

Funny, mine throws a P0741 TCC code, too. I'm sure the seals are shot, and probably the TCC itself, it was common on that vintage 4T80. I just clear the code with the dash buttons as soon as the light comes on.

You beat me to it. I had a loaded up dark Green with tan leather 2001 Aurora 4.0 and loved that car. It was probably the best interior GM had at the time and even today looks classy. The exterior always reminded me a little of a Saturn l but I thought it was an attractive car.

I bought my '96 with 155k on it and put another 30-40k HARD miles on it, like high school kid with a big V8 sedan miles. I never had a single issue with the engine, trans, or electronics. If I remember right, all it ever needed was a wheel bearing.
