The 3000 mile oil change

Just to clarify...I was somewhat joking earlier.

I was somewhat responding Krholm's comment, I didn't think that "warranty" is really an issue here with msparks's truck. After all, if he's planning to put a pre-oiler, bypass filter, and run 5w-20 in his truck, I'm not sure if warranty is going to be his top priority, nor will it be existent.

With a VW Passat 1.8T subjected to 8000 hard urban miles per year, I think a 3K mi / 5K km OCI with synthetic oil is reasonable. The owner's manual specifies a 5K mi / 8K km OCI, but goes on to say that engines driven under severe conditions may require more frequent oil changes.

The owner's manual of my 2003 Dodge Stratus is quite explicit: dino 3K mi / 5K km OCI for city driving and dino 6K km / 10K km OCI for highway. During the 7/70K powertrain warranty period, I don't want to stretch the OCI.

Since I have recently aquired so much free & ultra-cheap conventional oil, I have decided to start doing 3000 mile oil changes on my wife's '97 Expedition. I know it's total overkill, but if I don't, I'll never get rid of all that oil.
