That's not right... (nearly a quart in a month?)

So I checked my oil in my 2012 Impreza maybe 2-3 weeks ago, it was just about full. Today I checked it again, it was almost at the bottom line. I needed to add almost a FULL QUART.

Wouldn't that have looked like this

? Where did my oil go? There's not a leak as far as I can tell. No spots on the driveway or anything.

Anyway, I have my 7,500 mile service coming up just about any time I want now. I'll schedule it ASAP, but what should I say to them?

How are you liking the car?? Has there been any problems, glitches or annoyances yet - especially with the CVT?? Anything you especially enjoying about it??

I am planning on getting one but I wanted to test a Crosstrek first.

Yes. I warmed it up and checked it too because I felt like it. Still the same. Couldn't find more level ground.

Beside the fact it apparently drinks 3/4 quart of oil now.. A couple times the CVT got stuck at like 4,500RPM for no apparent reason, but it hasn't done that in a long time so it might have been something just the way I was driving. The CVT is nice but it feels like it has no power at all because of the lack of shift shock lol. I could easily manage 43 MPG if I drove almost completely highway and never drove "spiritedly" lol. Brakes are great too.. saved me from more than a few idiots that don't know how a stop sign works.

Stuck rings and garbage Idemitsu synthetic oil. Did you take a highway trip or drive very hard for that 200? Oil could have been full of gas and water then you cooked it off.

Both highway trip and drive hard, but I had to, I was at HPDE. If a prius and a cobalt (base model) can survive HPDE, I'm almost certain my car could.

Funny you mention that it was full of gas... my oil has smelled kinda gassy for the last thousand miles or so. Not too strong but not the normal sweetish oil smell.

Coked rings with a 2012 engine? Nope!

I would tend to agree with tig here.
And when did idemitsu oil become garbage?

My 2009 subaru legacy has consumed oil since new. The first time I checked the oil was at around 2,500mi-3,000mi, and the oil level was at the bottom notch on the dipstick. The car now has 116k and continues to consume around 1-2qt's of oil every oci, which is around 5k. I suspect the pcv valve may be to blame, but I've had it changed every 30k by subaru with no difference in consumption.

From what I've read on the subaru forums many have consumption issues, while many also have zero consumption.

**I just realized you're referring to significant consumption over a short period of time. My subaru's dipstick is very obnoxious, so I suspect that could be the culprit? I can read the level one time and read 3/4 between top and bottom marks, wipe it off and try again, bone dry, try again and 1/4 between top and bottom marks. I've also noticed that the dipstick can read full on one side, and 1/4 between full and the low mark on the other side. So maybe check it again and make sure both sides show the same level?

Some on Subaruforester.org running Subaru/Idemitsu 0w20 have changed oil brands and the consumption went away. The New FB engine dipstick is not flaky like the EJ was. I would give it another OC to see if the consumption subsides, if not try a different brand like Valvoline or PP and see what happens. Ive run M1 and currently PP and the oil consumption is still at about 1/2 qt per 7000 mi OCI. The blame on the Idemitsu comes from when Ive decided to try the Idemitsu in my newish Honda FIT at OCI #1, ZERO oil consumption turned into a vulgar 1/2 qt per week, so after 3 weeeks of this where excess oil use didnt subside I started topping off with M1R4T and it went away. Then next OCI was with EDGE 0w20 and there was no consumption and now with a FrankenBrew of 5w20 group II and Synthetics to rinse out the LiquiMoly still in the sump (as its running VERY good, though my intent was to dump this in a week) consumption is at zero also. So, something flaky with the very thin, high VI Idemitsu designed to get big CAFE #s in the EPA drive cycle.

Find out what they put in there; ask to see the drum. I but most dont use the expensive Idemitsu rather whatever bulk 0w20/5w20 they can get. Not saying its bad to use Valvoline or Mobil Super Syn bulk but its good to know the Brand data point for consumption issues.
