so i am boycotting monroe. ive tried two quick struts now various mounts abd attaching hardware. still squeaks they stop for about 20 miles after i replace it but then it starts and keeps getting worse and worse. monroes answer was well go buy a different brand of mount and put it on our strut and spring. i told them i am not spending another dime.
They agreed to buy the mount if their supervisor agreed to it but i would have to install it. I do not mind doing my own work but how many [censored] times do i have to take it apart?!?!?!?!?! they said they will pay for half of the first alignment. well i need another one now. Yesterday they told me paying for the whole alignment would be no big deal. o and FYI i called them before getting the second quick strut and asked them if it was a "fixed" one and gave them the date code. monroe said it was a good one. and its not!!! how freaking hard is it to make something that doesn't squeak? i am extremely frustrated. (end rant)
 
I put KYB GR2's on my SL2 with no problems at all. The Monroe [censored] was well documented back when I did my replacement. Car rode like a dream afterwards. I'm definitely a KYB supporter when it comes to new struts for any of my cars. You should go that route if at all possible too.
 
Oh and I know it's more work but if you break the strut and knuckle together (at the ball joint and tie rod) you should not need an alignment again, instead of breaking the strut free of the knuckle. In the case of replacing a mount that would work just fine.
 
i went with the gabriel strut mount and it squeaked. so i decided after the shop screwed my mount up while aligning it i would do a whole new quick strut assembly.
 
If its a second quick strut with the same problem on the same side..

Your ears are deceiving you, its something else.

Theres something wrong with the mounting, causing the assembly to bind. Putting on only one quick strut with the old strut assy, no alignment, etc.
 
so i replace it stops then it slowly comes back .the noise is from the strut no ifs ands or buts. when i pulled the strut assembly off and turned the top you could hear the same noise it is 100% for sure from the strut it is junk defective parts. if its off the car and and it squeaks on the bench i am pretty positive that means the assembly is squeaking.
 
Yeah but...they arrive happy and quiet, leave squealing in agony. Your car is doing that to them. Somethings awry with the environment your putting the assembly into. You cannot go without an alignment at least, replacing only one side is bad for many reasons.
 
it was aligned right after replacing it. the other side was replaced when the driver side was originally done and it is fine but it didn't need a new mount. the car is not the issue. everything has been checked the issue is monroes junk struts and the issue with it is its well documented all of the s series monroe issues but for some god awful reason they continue to sell them. they are torqued to factory specs and are aligned and they squeak. the part is junk . monroe admitted the issue they just do not do much to fix it ...

So the Gabriel mount squeaked, and the Monroe mount squeaked yet you know there is nothing wrong with the car. What does that leave? Installation error?

Welp, I'm out of ideas other than trying a readymount. I have a rattle coming on in the Camty. Showing its old age. although I can fix it, just refuse to sink 1k into it for 2 parts. so my method of dealing with a rattle is get rid of the car. Its not my sister, not my GF, its a hunk of old metal. Sometimes its better to let go.

Sorry to here about the trouble, almost went with the Monroe parts for the Corolla but at the last second decided to jump on the KYB's. Seems rock solid for the moment.
 
The gabriel squeaked because it had a monroe isolator which is made wrong and rubs the bearing plate. The gabriel wasnt at fault the monroe part installed with it was. The strut assy is bad and was verified bad by a mechanic. Its simply junk
 
Anybody who thinks im wrong please come look at it inspect it and you tell me. Im very sure the strut assy is the issue and so is everyone else thats seen it including monroe. Why its even a debate idk.
 
so i checked where the strut goes and its all fine. when i got off work i went a got another strut assembly and put it on so far no squeaking after 25 miles.
