What the heck is a Virtual CPU anyways?

Our server runs in a virtual machine on a VMWare hypervisor. VMWare allocates CPUs to the virtual machine as vCPUs. Your VM believes it has x number of physical CPUs, but it actually has no physical resources, all are virtual. We are upping the number of vCPUs for everyone's BITOG responsiveness during our thick vs thin debates
