See ya GMorg - good luck with your future. I've been here for a little bit and even though I've learned a TON I still come back and enjoy reading every few days - I don't think I'll ever be able to successfully leave for good.

Members go through a process of: coming with a question, having it answered or refuted, casting off old notions, learning new material, testing it out on newer members and refining their knowledge into helpfull models. After that, it's up to the member to decide how far they want to go. It's not like BitOG is a substitute for formal training or for a wife and family. It is what it is and very good at it. "Bored"? Go review the NMR on GC. Where else are you going to find that level of analysis and discussion? Good luck.

I don't really care about oil quality as I buy what's on sale and that's that.

I like this BBS for its analytical, no bull mindset. The kind of person who obsesses about his motor oil is the kind who I want to share thoughts with.

Except about R/S/P, which is a lost cause.

We were singing
Bye-bye, Mr Genetically Modified Pie
Drove my chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry

Godspeed and happy trails!

There will always be newbies and people who talk myths as facts, this is the Internet after all. Heck oil knowledge is even worse out in the real world, but you're not quitting that.

Anybody truly interested in subjects like motor oil, oil filters, oil additives, and stuff like that will keep coming back here. This is still the best website on the internet that I know of for discussions on subjects like these.

You have to realize there are now something like 16,000 members here and who knows how many people who visit but don't post. When I became a member here there were only a little over 1000 members. The people who post here range all the way from engineers, chemists, oil analysis people, to people who probably don't even change their own oil. Some people here have intricate knowledge of motor oils and some know only myths and fables. Once a site has 16,000 members you have to expect that.

There are times when it does seem like the discussions will start getting stale but then something will happen to change all of that. Just one example was the news about Mobil 1 oil apparently undergoing a formulation change.

I never would have tried Auto-RX of even heard of Auto-RX if it were not for this website. Auto-RX seemed to stop a seal leak in a car I owned in the past.

There are a few websites I visit on a regular basis. There are some photography websites I visit often. I visit this website for information on car/truck maintenance.
