Does anyone have a pds that shows the VI of TGMO? I'm in another forum where a guy is claiming that TGMO is exactly the same as Mobil Super. I posted a VOA of TGMO from here but he quickly discredited that as bull. I myself have had no luck in finding something aside from a VOA showing tech details on TGMO.

I wouldn't sweat it....ask HIM/HER to produce documentary evidence to the contrary on the TGMO.

If he/she can't produce.....let all read and laugh.

Don't forget....Some people LOVE to hear themselves talk....the same applies to the web postings.

I dug up some more VOAs on posted them up. Guess he can decide for himself whether he wants to believe it or not. Thanks for the responses y'all.

I would expect a VOA, or better yet a UOA physical property test to be more enlightening than some typical PDS number published by a manufacturer that can and will change formulas and base oils whenever they need to.

I wouldn't let a troll or two on a forum bother you. It is obvious to anyone who has any intelligence that a person as you describe is just trolling. Let the UOA and VOA results speak for themselves.

You should probably give this a read: Backfire Effect

It's pretty accurate. Chances are the more evidence you provide, the more he'll be convinced you're wrong...

Very interesting read. Thanks for sharing

Oh, and btw, he refers to BITOG as "BI[N]TOG." He also said about BITOG: "mostly about rumors and many of its members are cultists and other fringe personalities."

That comment alone destroys any potential credibility he may have had in the first place.
I've found this site to be very accurate when it comes to oil info and its members above the curve as far as intelligence.
I trust this site when it comes to info above all others. We have a diverse membership, with members from all walks of life including actual tribologists whom take the time to inform the membership accurately.
No where in my life am I fortunate enough to rub shoulders with such intelligent people, and or that I am thankful

You are absolutely correct. Very good info is always provided. And when there are newbs, such as myself, most of you guys are patient and tolerant of the questions. It is a good group.

I ended up blocking the guy however. Going through some of his other posts from other threads, I saw that I won't miss anything by blocking him.

TGMO 5w30 is very similar to MS5K, at least with respect to its additive package according to UOA's from PQIA.
0w20 on the other hand is different, but it is still an XOM product. Probably very close to M1 AFE when it comes to base oils.

With the huge VI difference between TGMO (216) and AFE (170-173) the base oil(s) used in TGMO must be lighter and of course the polymers used are different. The AW additives may be similar but other than the grade on the bottle these oils don't have a lot in common.

That's the exact point I was making in that other forum. Then another guy chimed in and said that all oils will have the same VI if they are the same weight ratings. In response to this, I posted the PQIA chart; to that, the guy responded by deeming the 20 point spread of VI in the PQIA chart as being "similar." There's just so much ignorance when it comes to oils out there.

Same for me.

I stopped posting after that; they insisted on arguing with me without posting anything to defend their position, so it was a lost cause. It's unfortunate because if it's one thing that I hate, it is false information being spread.
