I just got a text message saying that I won a $1000.00 gift card from realtimewinner.com. It's a scam. The phone number it came from is somewhere in Chinese Turkestan. I called ATT and they told me what to do. This company tries to hit you up with a $9.00 charge, as per ATT, and they also try to phish your private information.

This ever happen to you?

Yesterday a MS tech called me and informed me about the alerts they've been getting about my PC. I was supposed to go to my PC so they could diagnose it.

Needless to say, as an Ubuntu user, I was skeptical.....

you hear about this stuff all of the time. if I get an email of phone call and they are asking me for my account info, they get no response LOL ! I will take my chances of them accidentally closing out my account by accident :O)

Good for you, doing more than simply ignoring it. I usually ignore obvious scams, but it's people like you who make it known to the service providers.

It still boggles my mind how many people buy into these things. I know the scammers have evolved from the "I am a Jordanian prince and need your help to move funds from my American accounts..." but still.

Got a similar thing but with a Walmart $1,000 gift card. I googled the company and got nothing but scam reports in the search results.

Girlfriends phone beeped a day ago and one of those fake walmart messages came up. I told her to delete it and never call them.

I've been getting text message spam on my phone about twice a month lately. It only started this year. Just delete and move on.

My google voice number gets about one spam text per day. I think it is robocallers just texting every number on the planet at once.

I'd be a little irked if I had a limited plan for text messages, but my carrier gives me unlimited text and data.

Ah, perhaps they just wanted you back on Windows.
(Come to the dark side, with the rest of us...)

Scam spam on the cell phone is usually pretty easy to recognise. Text messages from unknown numbers are from prostitution rings. If it's a voice call from an unknown number it's probably a drug dealer. Reporting it is probably the right thing to do, but it's just so easy to ignore them all.

Well I've been getting more and more of these darn scammer spammer text messages of late. Yesterday I got 2, one said I won a prize and other was inviting me to a party at a "club". These are getting old.
