I've never been a Jeep kinda guy,but over all I liked the little Jeep. It drove nice in town and on the highway.
Seats were comfortable

Good that you're not a Jeep kinda guy, because that's not a Jeep, its a Fiat 500. You liked it, so....that would mean you're a Fiat kinda guy. The only real Jeep is the Wrangler, the rest just try to fool a consumer by using the name.

Man, you guys are tough. I've driven one also, they're very comfortable, pretty roomy and drive well but to me it felt really lightweight. Plus I hear they don't hold up well, maintenance wise.

Well, your essentially buying a Fiat, so.....

Though I will admit one thing about their EU lineup, the Panda is one tough and simple little ride!
That thing gets great reviews for reliability and functionality (fully deserved).

Drive a Wrangler or Grand Cherokee, the Renegade and regular Cherokee are terrible in comparison. I drove the Renegade when it first came out and bought my Journey instead because it was a better ride and I didn't have to lift my leg to get in/out of it because it was lower and that was a plus with my bad back.

Chrysler, Fiat, Dodge, Jeep, & RAM brands (FCA) still can't seem to climb the Reliability-Quality Ladder.
Maybe lease one for 36 months so its always under warranty anyway.

In terms of the rates of problems reported, FCA consistently gets clustered in the lower half:
Lexus
Toyota
Mazda
Subaru
Kia
Infiniti
Audi
BMW
Mini
Hyundai
Porsche
Genesis
Acura
Nissan
^^^^^^^^ Upper Half ^^^^^^^^
Lower Half:
Honda
Volkswagen
Mercedes-Benz
Ford
Buick
Lincoln
Dodge
Jeep

Chevrolet
Chrysler
GMC
Ram
Tesla
Cadillac
Volvo

I wouldn't get or recommend a Renegade... the Grand Cherokee though is a whole different experience.

FCA has some good reliable models the problem is the models they have that have issues have tons of issues and for numerous units and that drags them down in the rankings. I'm sure if they only sold their reliable models which us members here seem to own they would be a lot higher on the list.

That said as long as folks aren't buying the terrible models that have a lot of issues they aren't 1/2 bad. I wouldn't have a good portion of our family on Chrysler vehicles if I thought otherwise, and none of them are having issues.

The only issue to report was the alternator on my Journey that died under warranty and was replaced when I was in Florida with it. But that's a Mitsubishi electrics problem not FCA's fault and that can happen to anyone. It's a wear/tear item. It's not like the transmission let go.

My daughter just bought a 2017 Renegade Latitude 2.4/9 speed. I'm actually pretty impressed with the suspension, steering feel, and the Awd/4wd system. Braking is great, too. The interior is very comfortable and has more head and leg room for my 6'5" frame than either of my Wranglers. I've talked to a few owners of them and they all love them. Time will tell, but for now, I think it is a nice little car.

She did get a deal. It has some hail damage. It was written off by the previous owner's insurance, but the damage is mainly on the hood and roof. Nobody can really see the roof and a new hood is about $500 bucks. The car has only 16k miles on it and she got it for 11 grand. Equipped like hers with similar mileage, they typically sell for 18,500 to 19,000, so I think she did alright for her first car. Certainly I felt it worth a gamble for that price.

My 08 JK has consumed oil since 40k miles. It now has 130k and runs like new, so oil consumption doesn't really scare me unless it causes other issues.

This thread raised my curiosity, so I've been doing some research. Most of what I'm finding is that people generally say they are reliable and durable, although not as efficient as some competitors. That should be expected, since it is powering an awd system. Still, it seems they are pretty well regarded. My daughter's will get 5k oil changes with Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1 EP, or Valvoline Advanced Syn. We did her first with PP 0w20 and a Fram Ultra.

Yep. 2017 awd. Only 16k miles. It has a salvage title from hail damage. She'd not have been able to afford it otherwise. She's had her sights on one of these for awhile.

Work for a Chryco/Jeep dealership. We don't sell many Renegades at all, but lots of Cherokees.

I like the Renegade, how open and airy it is inside. But I can see the dislike for it - it really is a 'lightweight' Jeep product, not much ground clearance, and not a very solid feel. Cherokee is a much more substantial-feeling vehicle.

It is really more of a car than the Cherokee. I do feel it is solid, though. I drove this one down one of the worst country roads I know and it really kept its composure. Keep in mind I drive a JLU Rubicon every day, which is solid as a steel ingot.

If I had the choice, I'd go Cherokee, hands down, especially a Trailhawk. But for the mini utes, like Honda Element, etc, I like the Renegade best in the class. It has a better Awd system that locks. Its competitors don't have a center differential lock.

Stay tuned and we'll see if it endears itself to us, or not.
