Tesla Model 3 vs BMW M3 video

I've said the M3, especially in the video's configuration is a better track car. That does not make it a better car.
Completely different use cases.
M3 was always benchmark for dual use, street/track.
And it still is. Is M3P better to take you to Trader’s Joe? Perhaps, for some people.
The point about track is not just performance. It is overall strength of the vehicle.

Actually, the point is, according to the video, the M3P is a better car.

I just can't believe that anyone is trying to argue a bit faster lap time is worth more than twice the price, paying for fuel, and expensive German car service to boot for a daily driver. All of this in the EV forum. I must have taken crazy pills instead of my vitamins this morning.

Heck, driving and maintaining a GTI is more expensive than driving and maintaining the Tesla, and the Tesla has nearly twice the drivetrain warranty. Sure, both of these cars would run circles around the GTI, but then they should. The BMW has a similar schedule as the GTI(I just looked at it) clear down to the spark plugs and it looks like the enthusiast sites recommend the ZF gearbox fluid every 40k miles.

ZF automatic? Seriously can we address this too? *** does a torque converter automatic transmission have any business doing in a performance car. Garbage. It's great for a 7 series. It has no place in an M3. "But, but, but it performs better than the old dual clutch!" By what metric? I thought we were about driving feel and experience here. This is the concession you make for $111k.

Feel free to argue your point on how perfect the M3 is but we obviously are on other planets on what we find great about driving dynamics. I draw the line on slushboxes. Direct drive, whether it's manual, dual clutch, or straight electric. Everything else can FRO.

It's hard for some to accept that EVs have a place and are in fact better than yesterday's benchmark cars in some ways. Arguments have evolved from "gonna be belly up any day now" to "fast but not enough range". Well, the numbers don't lie. Both cars performed really well. Everything else is opinion, specifically personal preference. My personal opinion is buy what works for you; it's your money.

Personally I am surprised the MP3 came so close, 1.5 seconds, to the incredible M3 Competition. The 2 cars topped a pretty formidable list. You might make the case that a few mods to the Tesla would allow it to beat the M3 and still be far less expensive. That's a pretty good trick and pretty good value for a performance sedan.

Again, each to his/her own.

1.5 sec is A LOT in one lap between vehicles of similar power.

Because in 20yrs BMW M3 will rip on back roads. M3P will be recycled into beer cans.

I don't drive 20 year old cars. Show you how little investment I have in that.

Also I daily my car. If I bought the M3 it would have 300,000+ miles on it if I drove it for 20 years.

I don't think it's going to "ripping" too cleanly on a backroad at that mileage even with how I meticulously maintain my vehicles. It would have definitely reached money pit status to the point of buying another new Tesla.

That is why we call some cars appliance vehicles.

Surprisingly not the most ridiculous thing you've said here, but it's up there. Tires? Really?

We're talking daily drivers. You're a go down with the sinking ship kind of person aren't you?
You replied about my point on track. Yes, on track tires are absolutely the most expensive item. Also, BMW doesn’t need 14 engines in life cycle.

Well, you are talking price. I already told you: that might be most worrisome part.

Which I'm not doing which means the M3 loses any advantage with me. Weirdly that was my exact point.

You're right it's worrysome. I want to know what BMW was smoking when they came up with their price point when Tesla is handing them their ass in the premium vehicle market. Tesla buyers typically used to be BMW and Audi buyers. I wonder why they moved on from their meticulously well built German marques that are inexpensive to service🤣 for a slapped together Tesla?

Seems the market might not be as convinced as you are. It also seems to be some of the problem I was having buying used examples. People just aren't paying for the expensive servicing and it results in very expensive failures down the road.

Face it, performance BMWs left any idea of being a premium enthusiast option for up and coming professionals and are now playing in the well off segment. No one is saying it is a bad car, it's just barking up the wrong tree altogether.
