Time to realize fuel economy standards will continue to tighten. The mindless hate of EVs isn’t going to change that. They don’t care if we drive EVs or walk. Tech needs to continue to improve for charging, but if EVs in general fail it’s not going to change CAFE requirements. The idea of being in a spot to route for failure is sad.Yes, and millions more that aren't on this site
Supercharging was the one thing that gave Tesla a leg up on their competitors.
There is no reason for this and actually should be reversed. These standards may be loosened, I believe they will. An all lithium powered EV world is not remotely possible.Time to realize fuel economy standards will continue to tighten. The mindless hate of EVs isn’t going to change that. We’re probably 10 years out from hybrids not being efficient enough to meet CAFE. EVs will have to offset just to make those hybrids.
+1 It wouldn't surprise me if they lighten up on the requirements or put simply a freeze on them, just not tighten the noose further... That imo would be perfect for the car makers and the work force building them. Let people buy what they want. There is no reason for this and actually should be reversed. I could see the rate it is tightening at relaxing and there's a good argument for that, but none of it is getting backed off from its current standard nor do I think it should. There is no reason for this and actually should be reversed. Well we know where I stand on thisI could see the rate it is tightening at relaxing and there's a good argument for that, but none of it is getting backed off from its current standard nor do I think it should.
They've done a lot of good for air quality in the past. It's going to be hard to put that cat back in the bag now.Well we know where I stand on thisNew standards to me are nuts.
The past was years ago, now they use it to push an agenda is my feeling. Its gone to far which is typical when it comes to legislation. They've done a lot of good for air quality in the past. It's going to be hard to put that cat back in the bag now.
Way to dig up a 7 month old thread, genius.Did they finally figure out how to run forced induction on an electric motor?
I'm saying that's going to make it hard to reel it in with that kind of track record. The past was years ago, now they use it to push an agenda is my feeling. Its gone to far which is typical when it comes to legislation.
We talk about sympathy for the poor? It's laughable as we increase the cost of transportation past what is reasonable. It will be revised.
They don't have to reel it in, all they have to do is extend time deadlines, and not pile on more restrictions or unrealistic mpg goals. A win imo.I'm saying that's going to make it hard to reel it in with that kind of track record.
That's what I meant by reel it in. I think that's going to be difficult to do even though it's reasonable. They don't have to reel it in, all they have to do is extend time deadlines, and not pile on more restrictions or unrealistic mpg goals. A win imo.
Time will tell. It's already looking better for ICE and the cost of gas. Which IMO will help with the transition to go green by making the time frame a lot more realistic. That's what I meant by reel it in. I think that's going to be difficult to do even though it's reasonable.
Unless gas gets to $1.29 a gallon it's still more expensive than driving an EV. If it went to $0.50 I'd consider it.Time will tell. It's already looking better for ICE and the cost of gas. Which IMO will help with the transition to go green by making the time frame a lot more realistic.
And there lies another area where we differ. I'll refrain from you trying to drag me down a rabbit hole, and just say I'll happily pay what I've been paying for gas not to own an EV, which would be a major inconvenience for me. Especially in my retirement.Unless gas gets to $1.29 a gallon it's still more expensive than driving an EV. If it went to $0.50 I'd consider it.![]()
I think it's like anything. We like what we like and it would take a serious push in cost savings to switch. I already hit that point for getting into an EV. That's all. I pay 1/3 of what I did a mile now. It wouldn't pay me to realize depreciation on a new car to only break even with gasoline even if I wanted to.And there lies another area where we differ.
