I find the crappy individual heat pump units they have at many hotels are just worn out and too expensive of an item to keep in good shape. You know the ones I’m talking about. They are installed below the window and have a set of controls on top of the box. You move the dial to either heat or AC or perhaps vent. The cheaper ones have no way to set the temperature.

In most cases I would not rent an EV. Especially a non-Tesla because of the poor charging network. It doesn't make sense to me.
I think it is a US thing. Other nations' hotel seems to all be on mini split and they are quiet and cold if maintained right. Some US chains are notorious for not maintaining the "luxuries" and milk the efficiency to the max (Holiday Inn Express is the worst offender in the 2.5-3 stars motel chain to me). The tech is there but the owners just don't want to pay to maintain it.
For long trip I wouldn't drive any EV other than a Tesla (or soon other brands using the Tesla supercharger network) because the charger network can be very iffy. This IMO is the reason I think most should opt for plug in hybrid for another 5-10 years before jumping full on EV.
That's often a matter of the budget of the builder. I prefer central HVAC. The last lodging stay I had was at a Motel 6 (was cheaper than almost anything else other than roach motels). It was otherwise clean but the noise from the wall unit made it difficult to sleep. And they only had a single ice machine and it was all gone within minutes in the morning.
Still - once stayed at a regular Holiday Inn (looks like it's gone) where they had a wall unit and the rest of the family loved it. The wall unit was pretty quiet though. I've stayed in various hotels and motels that had them, and once I had one that smelled from condensation.

Wasting massive time, trying to find fast enough chargers, sitting in places for hours, etc. ridiculous.
Yeah I saw it after I posted that and knew what you meant after that.
