Temperature on New car

Thanks for the responses. I will go see the service manager on monday. If indeed this is "Normal" I will switch to 20 wt oil. May they do this to keep a higher oil viscosity. Yet it MUST hurt CAFE?
They do this to have engineering margin for the worst case fouled heat exchangers and poor heat transfer coefficients, excess glycol, lead foot driving. Suburban driving in 20F temperatures doesn’t create the same strain. Wait until AC is warming up the air flowing through the radiator, and it’s 95 outside, and you’re sitting in a traffic jam on the I-76.

that's what 40 mpg does
This. It just isn't going through enough gasoline to make the heat to warm the engine and the cabin.

My 50mpg TDi saw days it'd never fully warm up, or it'd take 25 miles on the highway to do so. low fuel burn and sub freezing temps outside. Heated seats were nice those days. :) Actually on that car I basically turned on the seat heater in the fall and didn't turn off until the spring... small price for visiting the fuel station that much less often!

Thanks guys. I believe the coolant temp may be on the engine INLET. And there may not be an oil temp. The gauge starts at 150F and does not move. I intend to talk to the service rep in any case. BTW I really like the vehicle!!
