Temp range

Talking to Valvoline tech guy on the phone today about the moly content of their greases since none define how much they contain except for Palladium at 3%. He stated that all the other moly containing greases (ford spec, durablend, synpower) are approx 1%, but thats not really what this is about. We also got to chatting about temp operating ranges and he advised that the Palladium isn't the "best" grease for my environment in that the temp regularly dips below freezing and can dip below the 0 degree mark as well. Specifically he states that while any would work, palladium would not be the best choice and synpower would be the best choice. Clearly the synthetic has the best numbers if you look at the pour points and vicosity numbers but I'm curious just how much this really matters. Would the lower cost, higher moly content palladium really offer any decreased protection during cold temps (Michigan winters can range from over 50 degrees outside to below zero...in the same day)??

I have to believe that in suspension components this may not be much of an issue since the grease tends to be more static, but what about in bearings such as u-joints?
 
Why wouldn't operating temperatures be much of an issue? Grab a stick of room temperature butter and a stick of butter out of a freezer and try working each into the needle bearings of a u-joint. One of those sticks is in a temperature range where it works as a lubricant and the other isn't.
