TCW-3 recommendations for Toro CCR-2000??

Been away for a while, but back with more questions. I just bought a 1995 Toro CCR-2000 with the Suzuki built engine in it, and I've noticed that Toro specs TCW-3 two stroke oil. After some reading, I see that TCW-3 is usually an outboard/water cooled oil. Nevertheless, I'm looking for suggestions of a quality oil that'll keep this machine clean and allow it to live a looooooong time. I see Valvoline has a "multi-purpose" version...that any good? I do not care about smoke or smell, though I would not object to a pleasantly pleasing scent like the old Klotz Techni-Plate dirtbike stuff 🤣 Also, is it safe to use the engineered fuels like TruFuel 50:1?

Interesting you mention this just now..... I was going to post the same topic relating to my 63cc harbor freight genny that runs cold. It is way over cooled for electrical loads and in winter the engine is hardly warm. You can run outboard oil in your Suzuki engine at 50 to 1. It will still be a gel like carbon coming out the port.

These engines are utterly the holy grail in durability. The internals simply do not wear out. Carbs can be a disaster now thst they have aged and ethanol is now a part of the living.

I have noticed these engines do not burn the oil, rather oozes it out. Maybe that is why they last as they retain a thick film.

This is what I used for the last 20 years in my Toro 2450 I believe it is. It always seemed to work well for me. Back in the day, my neighbor had the same one as me I ran to Torco, he ran whatever. His would smoke like old hell and bogged down in the snow. I would just keep powering along. He be scratching his head. I’d be laughing all the way.😂😂

You don’t need a TCW3 oil. That’s a super outdated spec for boat motors.

The current spec for 2 stroke is JASO FD.

In that world, you have basics like Outdoor Power Equipment OPE oils, like Red Armor…they are decent.

Above that are power sports oils…dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and cart oils…Honda HP2 is the best of the best.

If your really want boat oil…Evinrude XD100.

Buy Honda HP2. If you need a local buy…Echo Red Armor is sold everywhere.

I loved my ccr 2450.. but 30 years of salt and rust did it in..

The replacement 721R is good but does not have the same feeling and lightness of the old R-tek
Was your R*Tek a plastic carbed model? I was avoiding those like the plague as I was looking at all these old Toros. Some early R*Tek were metal carbed and I see mixed reviews. Some love the R*Tek, others dislike it. I was told they're LawnBoy designs and were bought by Breaks & Scrap'em...I mean....Briggs and Stratton 🤣 I also had a 721R 5 years ago...great machine for a 4 cycle. I was stupid and traded it to my neighbor lady who had a small two stage...she couldn't maneuver it but liked my Toro. In retrospect, that was a bad move. Should have kept the 721. I don't know what they've done to them now, but they look goofy as heck with a new style engine that hangs halfway out the back :/

yes it was plastic, but the replacement plastic carb lasted the 15 years or so I owned it
IIRC it was a mid 90's model.
Some grandma suckered me into overpaying but it did work good after I replaced the paddles, scraper bar, belt, and carb. :ROFLMAO:

Great information, sir...thank you. I'm a Honda man and know where to get HP2. So, JASO FD, huh? I did see that spec on the TruFuel can and wondered what it was. Now.....I did read posts and info that "regular" OPE oils didn't work as good in snowblowers because they're made for high RPM, high heat two strokes like weed whackers and chain saws. But it looks like the JASO FD spec covers ALL two strokes? If so than the RPM and temp range doesn't matter? Finally, there were a lot of people all over saying the Echo Red Armor stuff was good. Available at the orange home improvement store.

I can't wrap my head around a plastic carb. I understand the theory....but it doesn't work out long term. If it was isolated from the block better, maybe.... Every video I watched had the same result....leaks from warpage.

JASO FD is a pretty universal modern spec that exceeds the older specs. TCW3 is a marine engine spec that included reduced emissions for underwater exhaust of combustion materials that could pollute water. It also addressed the theory that marine engines are colder running than air cooled engines.

They stopped updating TCW3 after the last 2 stroke outboard maker went out of business…

I just run HP2 in everything, along with a stabilizer in ethanol free fuel.

Plus low ash/low smoke. Got it. Looks like I'll be getting some HP2. If it's that good, maybe I'll switch my chainsaw and leaf blower over. They currently run 50:1 TruFuel. The Toro runs 50:1....keep that mix and run everything off one fuel jug?

Is honda HP2 a tad outdated now? I know it was a huge deal back in the early 2000 up to 2010 but if it wasnt for richard flaggs teardown videos I would have honestly forgot about it.

Funny you mention that...I was just watching his videos after posting this thread :ROFLMAO: Looks like it's still good stuff, but I'm also looking at Echo Red Armor as it has a zillion good reviews and is easier for me to get. The only store I can walk into and get HP2 is 25 mins away, and I used to work there....don't like going back and seeing the old boss.

amsoil Sabre is a great fully synthetic 2 stroke option.
