I took a short 2 mile drive tonight and encountered so many terrible drivers that ended with an idiot in an Impreza getting stuck in the middle of a main road for an entire traffic signal cycle with his hazard lights on, only for me to get the 5 second left arrow to have to wait for him to clear out and another complete idiot in a Tundra to run the red light. By the time I got to go the light was yellow!

Please recommend a decent dash cam.

I have 2 separate cameras, front and rear with 256GB high endurance SD cards. They are Rexing 1A cameras IIRC. I keep 2 spare smaller capacity SD cards in the center console in case I need to preserve evidence from the cameras.

Consumer dashcams are not 100% reliable and though I have never lost or missed any footage, you should periodically replay your recordings on a computer.

For someone like a trucker I would recommend running 2 front cams simultaneously for redundancy.

You will need to do some research and https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/ is a great place to start.

Love this one. It's low profile so it doesn't hang down low, and no suction cup to fall off in the heat. I have it in all 3 of my cars. Has an app that you download the video from and configure the camera. Works surprisingly well.

I actually have a clip on my phone I had to send to a cop recently where I witnessed an accident, showing the car in the accident. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the clip of the accident. But here’s leading up to it (Chrysler at the end).
Ignore me driving like a jerk. I had to leave work and drive across town quickly, my dogs got out of my gate I left opened and were roaming around the neighborhood. I did slow down after the quick merge.

I current have a Viodo a129 that came with front and rear cams as well as built in gps and speedo, a screen, external SD card, and you can connect to it via built-in wifi from your phone. There is also parking mode but the hardwire kit is separate and I have mine plugged in via a USB splitter to the home link mirror. It looks like it got superceded by the a229 with a smaller rear cam with slightly better resolution.

I'd suggest one that has them all built in so you're not trying to attach multiple modules or pay a subscription like garmin. I'd also suggest one with great camera quality at night - although most of the night recordings I watch is impossible to get a plate regardless of cam model.

If you have an Escort radar detector they have one that works with and mounts to the side of the radar detector. I need to pick one up.

I was told to avoid one using GPS technology which tracks your speed. That can go against you if you have to prove you at no fault in an accident with someone should you be going a little too fast..

Ive been using Thinkware F70 for 6 years now. Works great with no issues.

Its a real company, not a drop shipped product.

It would be nice to get a rear one as well.

I have one from the Amazonians. No idea how to take the videos off and put on YouTube.

Guess if it's needed ill just mail it to the insurance and they can finger it out

I'd go to the Crutchfield web site and read the data and reviews of their dash cams. They sell high quality electronics and the level of professionalism is top notch. Prices range from $99 up to $849 so there's likely something in there you can find.

If you have questions then they have staff available to answer any questions and can even teach you how to use the video functions if you can't figure it out. They offer service the way it used to be.

I worked in insurance back in 2015 when dash cams were just becoming a thing, and have had one in my vehicles ever since. Most of them you can turn off the speed display in the video, and back when I was an adjuster we never really paid attention to that unless it was obvious you were driving at reckless speeds (20 over in most cases).

This is the camera I have, I like that I can just connect to it through wifi with my phone and download the clips instead of having to pull the SD card. It also has the G sensor so if someone bumps your car while it is parked it will start recording. I also recommend not buying something too expensive as it can be a target for thieves, especially in an open vehicle like my Wrangler.

Update, my dashcams are the Roav brand. Here is some footage of notable incidents I caught:

I have a

VIOFO 4K HDR Dash Cam Front and Rear A139 Pro 2CH, STARVIS 2 IMX678 Sensor, Superb Night Vision, Ultra HD 4K + 1080P

and the wiring kit

VIOFO HK4 Acc Hardwire Kit, USB-C Hard Wire Kit for T130/A139Pro.

I have the 'rear' cam mounted just rear of the rearview mirror, so it sees the passengers, the whole interior, and out thru the side and back window. If I get sideswiped or burgled I'll have video.

I have it set to record for 1 hour after being parked. I have MPH recording turned off. It has a great UI on your smartphone.

The wiring kit has two settings for power-off under low voltage, so if you leave the car parked for a month, with parking recording turned on, you'll still be able to start your car.

This cam is consistently at the top of reviews and comparisons. The video is good.
