Before i get in trouble for this, is it legal to take pictures of my 4 year old son holding some of my legal firearms?I usually have pics done at Walmart.

It is the wal-mart part that concerns me. Don't know what folks will think about carrying firearms into the store, even if done fully legal and by the book ways.

Probably not explicitly illegal. But I can picture a scenario where some pencil neck makes trouble for you through Social Services, or Protective Services. Or whatever politically correct name they give to the department that investigates reports of possible child abuse in CA.

Don't get me wrong, if your kid isnt pointing the gun at his own head or some other silly pose, I dont see anything at all wrong with it. Just that I could imagine reading this story in my paper on Sunday.

And you do live in the land of the 9th circus court, so all bets are off.

Or dressed as enemy combatants.

What is the scene? Cowboy? Hunter? Might make the difference rather than a 4-year-old in a Dora The Explorer t-shirt and holding an AK47.

OP, the kid got a license to carry? man, you start them young!

I can't imagine a problem. I have a bunch of pix of my 4yo shooting a shotgun and black powder rifle at clay pigeons at a local Ducks Unlimited Greenwing event.

I'd just buy/acquire/borrow a solid tripod and do the scenes myself at home, no need to create a panic or question your parenting style by the peanut gallery.

IMO.

I would call your local PD and ask them if it would be ok and that the guns would not be loaded when you take the pictures so that they are aware of it (As all calls are logged) so if an overly idiotic Walmart employee calls the cops you are protected and don't end up on CNN or Larry King Live.

If you're just doing 4x6s the odds are good that a human isn't even going to look at them, especially if you mix them in with others.

The bigger stuff, someone might monitor the computer to make sure the color balance is right before it wastes a buck on a lot of photo paper.
