Takata Airbags = largest auto recall ever

We ship it back to Takata. I have done more HAZMAT FedEx shipments the past couple months than I ever wanted to.

Would it make more sense just to deploy them out back and send Takata proof they have been destroyed?

Yes it would. However we can't deploy airbags anymore, the EPA and CARB frown on that. Plus they want the old ones back to inspect them.

I just received my recall notice yesterday for my 2014 Mustang GT and my fiancee received hers about two weeks ago for her 2007 Mustang GT.

The local service adviser says he has no idea when they will have parts to fix our cars.

Yup, parts have no ETA. They don't even have a number for us to check ETA.

The amount of air bags Takata and other companies must produce for all recall is more than 30 millions, this is above the millions are needed for new cars. It should takes more than a year to complete the recall.

I read a cable news outlet article that said it may take 2-5years to replace the 34 million defective air bags. Preferance will be given to older cars and ones from humid areas. So, will this present liability issues to owners wishing to sell/trade in their cars before the bags are replaced knowing these cars are on the recall list? This may significantly impact value of these cars as well.
Also, ppl are told not to sit in the passenger seat, which limits the owners use of their car.Taken together, the air bag issue appears to be larger than just replacing them.

I would love to see the air bag become an option on new cars once again, I personally don't like them and the serious dangers they present even when they are working as designed. The Germans knew the problems involved with the use of airbags in cars decades ago and that even their auto club ADAC was against wide spread use after a large amount of testing on them. It seems they were right when they insisted that as long as seat belts are correctly used there was NO need for airbags.

I just had the recall performed on our 2006 Accord today. I made the appointment on Monday, so at least at my dealer there was no shortage of parts.
