I buy new hoses for my oil extraction pump at autozone. I noticed that it comes some sort of fine granular material on the outside but I didnt bother cleaning it before i stuck it down the dipstick to draw oil. I'm also getting high silicon content in my UOA.

Is it possible the hose is covered with some sort of silicon material and that is what is throwing my results off?

we are talking a silicon reading of 30 when it should be around 12 for my engine.

Could very well be. It's amazing how clean everything has to be for a dirty oil sample.

You could sneeze on the oil sample bottle and something weird would show up.

Thats why a Fumoto valve makes sampling so easy. Turn the lever, let the oil flow for about 3 seconds and then catch a sample.

Next time make sure the hose is clean or it will skew your UOA.

And then the Fumoto valve being brass raises the copper content of the oil.

Are you sure ?

I've had a few UOA on a Honda using a Fumoto valve and the copper level was extremely low (almost none).

If that were the case then wouldn't the oil pan's existence raise the iron or aluminum content of the UOA?

Just trying to throw more confusion into the pot.
