Last night I completely drained my coolant and left it to drip out all night into the dirt patch in the back yard. Then this morning I totally forgot to fill her back up and drove off to town. 10 miles (20 minutes) later the car was idling high and had seemed to have lost a bit of power, like timing had been retarded Sure enough, it hit me like a train. The engine was overheating like mad!! And I had given the car a few WOT blasts too! *yikes* (Modified 2L Turbo)

I was thinking, wow im so suprised my engine didnt sieze up and die! Especially being an alloy head/block. Needless to say I pulled over and let the beast cool down for an hour, lettin the car idle for a few seconds every couple of minutes to circluate the oil. Then I trickled some water into the radiator slowly and drove off.

I was running Delvac 1. I was thinking, did it help protect my engine during this time? My bet it is, better than dino thats for sure. Thankgod for the oil cooler. The oil temps would have been through the roof and as thin as water!!

Nevertheless, the car runs just like it did yesterday. Thats a relief.

Synthetics - cheap insurance I say!

"Lucky Leo" Leo, I would keep checking the head gasket for some leaking in case of a minut heat warp, I would personally change out the oil after something like that in case of filings or oil overheated too much, but I am always over cautious.

Even cheaper insurance would be to pay a guy $5 to give you a dope slap.

Then you could safely use dino oil and pocket the difference

Please don't pollute the water supply system and the environment! And please don't poison the pets and animals in the area. Anti-freeze has a sweet taste that causes a painfull slow death after it crystallizes in the kidneys!

Sorry, but I dont really know where else to put old coolant.

I figured the dirt patch out the back in yard adjacent to the garage was an OK place. Nothing edible grows there! I dont have pets, or children. I didnt really like the idea of throwing it down the drain...

If there's a sewage treatment plant at the other end of your drain, in a lot of cases it might be better to pour it down the drain.
