ive been readin, and jsut dicovered what dino oil is. conventional, lol. which one would rrate betetr or best? pennzoil, havoline or mobile clean 5000 or 7500? compared ot syntehtics?
very low mileage yearly, aout $900 miles in a year is all i cover.

All of the conventional oils are comparable. The Mobil 7500 is probably about equal to the synthetic blends. Synthetics are better yet. The botique synthetics lke Amsoil are great if you live in Alaska or drive huge amounts of miles.

Buy any conventional oil, GF-4 rated. Change it every 4,000 miles or 6 months, whatever comes first. Your engine is going to outlast the chassis anyway.

"$" probably equals "4", so I think ziggy drives 4,900 miles in a year. If so, I'd run Havoline conventional oil year-round changed-out every 6 months.

lol guys lol. sorry about the $ typo lol. my bad. ive been running mobile 1 for just over aeyar now but stil changing oila t 3 months, becuase even with synthetic, the oil is black almost, some of it looks goldfen, but not very much. i want to give my car the best protection i can, but i now conventionals let more sldge ect build up. ive ben readins so much about havoline! is it really better than mobiles conventionals? i am thinking about switching back to conventional, becuase of the shroter change intervals.

and.... lol in yaear, ive calculated, i put aout 3,850 miles on the car. sytnhtetic or conventional, stop and go traffic, ect.

ziggy: The color of the oil really has very little to do with how "used-up" the oil is. Also, you're wasting your money by running Mobil 1 oil for 1,000 mile OCI's. If I were you, I'd try Havoline, Chevron, Pennzoil, TropArtic, Motorcraft, etc. and skip the synthetic oil.

Good analytical skill AndyH. You're definitely CSI material. I couldn't have deciphered it any better.

i jsut did an oil change, had mobile 1 10 30 instaed of 5w30(which i am supposed to use). its been in car for 2 months now, and GOD is it pitch black!!!! i put exxon superflow 5w 30 in, car rns terrific!!! seems like everytime i do an oil change, theirs alwasy a quart missing. i have noticed a leak somewhere under car. everytime i see tiny drops of oil coming from bottom of oil filter. its splashed all over bottotm of car: ( i hand tighten my filters, use oil to lube the filter gasket. any ideas? my oil pan looks really rusted in certain areas, like the outer skin is brown and flaking off. maybe i should get that replaced hugh? car is now 10 years old.
ive decied to stay with conventional, since i use 3 month change intervals. : ) sorry abut the fram tough gurad fitler, its all the good quality stuff they had. they never have mobile M102 fitler for my car in stock, fram is the next selection they have. other than that, acdelco, valvoline, stp and motorcraft fitlers. none of which look like promising filters, to me. s thats why i stayed with fram.........for now. nextt ime, i am gunna get an amsoil filter. 13 oz. of oil a minute, and filters 7 to 10 microns!!!

ziggy: I'm no oil filter expert, but I do believe the AC Delco and the Motorcraft filters are generally highly regarded by the guys who post over on the oil filter forum. You might want to do some searching over there and/or ask which filter they'd recommend for your Neon.
