Synthetic after mineral?

Okay guys , I have searched through the forum here,and while I may have missed something, I do not see an answer to my latest question; I just got a 2004 4 Runner with over 100,000 miles on it,it is the V-8 ... smooth running piece even with the miles.
My question is ... after having (had) mineral grade oil in the crankcase all this time,would it be okay to change it over to Mobil 1 ?
May not be that complicated question,but I seem to remember something about the mineral grade oil being saturated in the metal of the engine would tend to "shed" the synthetic oil ??
I would appreciate the input .... guess I am just paranoid!

yes its ok to switch to syn. switch back and forth or run it half and half. i bought my truck with 125k on it and im about to hit 150k and i have switched back and forth several times.....still runs fine. besides M1 is a group III, which isnt really synthetic to begin with.

My 270+k miles 18 years old LS400 had conventional and synthetic back and ford many times without any problem.

No, at this point seal compatibility issues are a thing of the past. Different synthetic oils have tendencies to swell or shrink them, but additives or blending different bases gets around this. It may not even matter, though, since many "synthetic" oils are mostly group 3 oils which would affect the seals the same way as a conventional.

Mobil Super Synthetic is a group 3 oil, M1 is a sophisticated formulation of up to 15 differant compounds(is that the right word) that is well beyond most of us to figure out.

Now to answer your question. Yes, you can switch. In fact recently my grandson switched his 02 Camry to Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage from dino. I know many engines that have been switched over with no problems at all, assuming you don't have a sever oil leak or other mechanical problems.

If that is truly your view then by your standards, there are hardly any readily available synthetics on the market. Bad info as well as the OP has already pointed it out.

You can switch and should not have any problems. In my considered opinion this is a good thing. Switching brands and formulations could potentially clean up deposits left behind from the other oils.
