I noticed all the threads about Valvolines new Synpower claim of behing 4X better than M1, but I may have missed it if someone verified if they were making the claim of being better than EP...???
Anyone know?

Valvoline is comparing to ONE GRADE of Mobil 1. The 5w30. I'd like to see it compared to the 0w40, 0w30 TDT 5w40....etc. I somehow doubt it would stand a chance.

I believe that synpower is better than M1 in terms of performance over a normal 7500 mile run. Beyond 7500 miles I believe M1 might hold out considering its add pack.

Dominic:
The problem with this statement from Valvoline is this:

-It is isolated to ONE grade of oil.
-It is isolated to ONE test.
-The Valvoline oil fails to meet the GM and Honda spec.... But the M1 does.

So which oil is actually BETTER? I'm sure there are tests that the M1 scored far better at than the Valvoline.... Yet I do not see M1 trouncing around proudly displaying that information......

No, because M1 would rather sell their oil on the basis it's used in NASCAR. Not to mention it was the "highest-bidder" for being used as OE equipment oil in Viper/Corvette :) Gotta love marketing, it's bad science either way you cut it for M1 or Valvoline.

The high bidder argument has been refuted by numerous sources at GM, who have stated that GM CHOSE M1 based on their test results.

And advertising that your oil is used in a racing venue such as NASCAR, not to mention LeMans, Formula 1.....etc. These are FACTS. They do nothing to try and undermine the integrity of one's competition. It is like advertising the fact you have a PHD or P. Eng. after your name.

Valvoline's approach is, in comparison, a direct dig at their competition. And quite comical, given that they BUY base stocks from Exxon-Mobil...... And EM has since demanded Valvoline to quantify their claims. This is hardly a friendly situation.
