Theories aside and not looking for conjecture and or speculation.
Has anyone ever used the " Lube for life" Synlube motor oil?
If so how long have you been using it and have you had it tested
by them or by others?

Thanks all!

I really don't care RE: how low/effective the mechanical filtering set up RE: micron ratings, etc. or how frequent you must top up with their oil/replace the mechanical filtering device.

The very sad fact for not able to get rid of accumulated soluable contaminants in this so-called "lubed for life" idea is what really puts me off.

That's all I have to say.

Q.

I was wondering about this aswell recently...

If you search, I think there was at least one user on here, but I don't know how long he used it...

Don't do it, btw... the thread has comedy value though

I saw a post here some time ago of an engine with lifetime lube. I think the lifetime of the engine was 90 (?) K and it looked like the valvetrain was stuffed with chocolate cake.

That maybe true but some people like to test products so that they may know the truth instead of hearing rubbish from those that have zero experience with a product. Like Pennzoil conventional, you see a zillion post about how it and QS will ruin your car. Is that still true? No. Is it wildly accepted as still true, YES!

The cost of Synlube would pay for many conventional on time oil changes. But its nice to just be the one learning the truth instead of excepting theories from those that have no experience with the product.

We've had multiple threads on it (real, long threads) including used oil and virgin oil analysis. Here's one:

And with that this thread has its best answer.

As far as a lifetime lube I suppose with bypass filtration down to one or 2 micron the oil still needs to compensate for acid, which means if there isn't any or minimal consumption you'd need to drain some out to add more to combat acids.
If draining some why not just change the whole sump load. Not to mention the added cost in special filtration.
And for what benefit exactly?
There is a point where returns diminish.
If it ain't broke

Certain experiences are best avoided, and "zero experience" can, occasionally, be a great thing. I don't need to get a colonoscopy to know that I don't really want one. I don't really want to experiment with lifetime engine lubricants, either.

That's usually from an economic viewpoint.
Which Canadians are known to endorse....... LOL!

I'll let someone else test it and read about it. As far as trying it for myself, no thanks.

This product simply capitalizes on many people's fears that there is a grand conspiracy by the oil and automotive industry to keep them as slaves to the oil changes. By using this product they feel that they have beat the system.

From a technical point of view, there is absolutely no meaningful explanation from the product owner on how it can achieve such a thing without filtration. There is all sorts of technical sounding mumbo jumbo, just like in a Star Trek episode, but there is no true meaning to all of it.

Well see, people don't have to use something to be able to meaningfully comment on the claims and statements posted to a website. I mean, what is posted there is apparently sold you, enough to want try it and to come here and ask, right? Others can formulate a different opinion - and those opinions can be based on science. Some of the claims being made may be beyond reasonable, just be aware.

And a "zillion" posts about Pennzoil Conventional and Quaker State Conventional ruining cars? Are you talking about a different site than here? The reason I ask is because as far as I know I've never seen such posts, certainly not a zillion of them.

In regards to you wanting to try Synlube, what is it that you plan to do to test it? How are you going to learn the truth? Can you explain what tests you would do to verify the claims made on their website?

Or a position of pain.

It's quite clear that a lot of people underutilize their lubes (although some never do any maintenance). But, getting the maximum use out of a lubricant does not mean it lasts forever. TBN depletion and oxidation exist. They can be addressed, perhaps, by top up, but that's assuming an engine consumes enough oil. Insolubles have already been addressed here. How about permanent damage thanks to fuel dilution?

The most dramatic step one can probably take to extend an oil change interval (though not the cheapest) is to get rid of gasoline and switch it to LPG. Throw in synthetics and mostly highway miles, and you could really go a long way. But, that's still not forever.
