Hi all,
04 Honda Civic 1.7 not Vtec
99K miles on it
The previous owner have run mostly Kendall blend after 75k miles kendall high mileage with OCI around 5K.
Now, I am running MSS 5W-20 and I recently got a Mobil 1 HM 5W-20, 5-quart jug was $22 so could not resist for that price. The car does not burn any oil but there is little coming out from the valve cover seals. It is not a leak though.
Hot&humid climate, mostly easy drive! one way 5 miles commute. Sometimes stop&go traffic. I also do some trips on highway.
I heard that Mobil 1 HM is a good cleaning oil so I dont see any reason not to run this oil. I also checked the viscosity values because everybody says HM oils are on the thicker side. I don't want my MPG decrease so here is the values for MSS and M1 HM
Mobil 1 HM 5W-20 (API SL)
SAE Grade
Viscosity (ASTM D445)
cSt @ 40 ºC 50.1
cSt @ 100 ºC 8.6
Viscosity Index 150
HTHS Viscosity, mPa•s @ 150 ºC (ASTM D4683) 2.7
Pour Point, ºC, (ASTM D97) -42 -
Flash Point, ºC, (ASTM D92) 244
Density @15.6 ºC g/ml (ASTM D4052) 0.856
Mobil Super Synthetic 5W-20
API Service Classification SN
Gravity, API 34.9
Specific Gravity 0.850
Pour Point -39°C (-38°F)
Flash Point, ASTM D92 234°C (453°F)
cSt at 40°C 49.6
cSt at 100°C 8.8
CCS, cP 4670 @ -30°C
MRV, cP 13,200 @ -35°C
Viscosity Index 158
Viscosity values are very similar but viscosity index of Mobil 1 HM is lower than MSS.
Would it be okay to run Mobil 1 HM? or should I return it and get M1 5w-20
