First post i was refered to this site by a friend. Thanks in advance for any replies. Last labor day i bought my first new vehicle. Leftover 2013 silverado z71. 5.3. Only thing i usually tow is a 3000 lb rig bass boat. I am wondering what would be advantages or disadvantages when the 2 years of free oil changes by dealer is over going from the dexos to full synthetic mobil 1.? Or should i just stay with om oil?

Pretty sure applicable Mobil 1 grades are dexos approved, right.
Many SYN oils are dexos approved
longer drain interval if ok for warranty, cold temp startup protection, high temp performance, etc.
oh and don't forget the "warm fuzzy" feeling some people have mentioned

After your free changes are done. Just use whatever oil you find on sale that meets/exceeds DEXOS specs and follow your OLM. The last thing you will need to worry about is a oil related engine failure.
Im new here not sure what you mean by warm and fuzzy but i am thinking about the best protection for my engine. Dont care if i have to spend a few dollars as i mentioned before this is my first new vehicle. I just want to take care of it so it lasts.
Any approved oil (dexos1 at the correct viscosity) run for the life shown on the oil life monitor will prevent oil-related engine failure. Something else might kill your truck, but it won't be oil. Use good filters (ACDelco, WIX, NAPA, Baldwin, Hastings, Purolator), not the cheapos.
I haven't seen any significant quantifiable results between majors. Pick the one you like that shows the best gas mileage (good luck quantifying that properly) doesn't oxidise to ocal tar and provides and low engine racket.

GM Dexos 5W30 is okay, no better nor worse than any semi-syn name brand 5W30 with Dexos approved.
If you like to keep your new Silverado for more than 10-15 years or 200-300k miles and don't mind paying few extra dollars per oil change, you should switch to any name brand synthetic with Dexos approved and change oil when oil life monitor went down to zero.
