Switching away from High Mileage oil

I think he meant more wear on the seals, not the shaft. All nice comments here, but again just speculation and not fact. I have used the High Mileage oils every second oil change and they have sealed up a rear main seal on the Escape. I really don't care about anything else but in no longer leaks.

Seals become hard with age, that's when most of the wear occurs... A soft, resilient seal will conform to the surface it's mated with and have very little wear, once it hardens it and it's mating surface both will suffers some wear... Keeping the seal soft and pliable is the whole idea behind High Mileage oil, using it after the seal has hardened and leaking badly, often has little effect...

It'll have little wear if the oils is not contaminated with foreign substances like carbon, silt ,silicon ,.etc.the seals are now softer ,therefor more prone to abrasion.Hence more seepeage.

what is 'circuit use'? i'd not be comfortable racing any car with multiple possible oil leaks. if you have to buy race tires, etc, you should take it apart and track down all the oil leaks, vacuum leaks, and anything else before pushing it hard

but i would stick w/ maxlife or just run Pennzoil Conventional or valv white bottle
