I'm switching from a high mileage oil (with seal conditioners)to a synthetic (MB1 0-40) without the seal conditioners for high mileage car. Is there any additive that I could use that would have the seal conditioners in it ?

1993 BMW 318i

I use Auto-RX. 3oz maintenance dose from the bottle. I run extended drain intervals with Amsoil, so it's really inexpensive. Plus it keeps my engine clean. After some new plugs it's running great.

If it was M1 High Mileage it was seal swellers in addition to conditioners. Why I asked. If he thinks a conditioner alone will stop leaks I doubt it. From what I've read A-rx has swellers in it, but thats a hugely expensive way to go. Much cheaper to stay with a High Mileage oil. In the summer I consume more. I just top off with a thicher High Mileage oil, does the trick.

Auto-Rx is a ester. Esters is what is normally used by High Mileage oils to swell seals. What Auto-Rx is supposed to do after it cleans a engine there is a couple of things that happen after the cleaning cycle to stop leaks.

RX does not swell seals. A few bucks an oil changed is huge money?????

When I feel the need for a seal conditioner, I use Berryman B7 Chem-Seal. It's made for automatic transmissions but it can be used in the crankcase as well. It works.

You are right Auto-Rx does not swell seals, is just cleans the gunk around seals that caused the seals to lose pliability. I believe using Auto-Rx is better than going the High Mileage oil route, but nothing will fix a mechanical problem but replacing what is broke.

Nothing will fix a mechanical problem like weeping seals except replacement?
WRONG.
Many have been helped by High Mileage oils for this exact situation. Either fixed or attenuated.

I did not say weeping seal. I am commenting about a ripped or torn seal not one that lost pliability do you understand the difference?

You will hear and read about people complaining about High Mileage oils and products like Auto-Rx not working, often people do not understand anything in a bottle can not magically fix what is broken.

I don't think its clear what the words "seal conditioner" really mean. For example Mobil 1 High Mileage product description only states "Seal conditioner. Helps to prevent leaks". But in the Mobil 1 website FAQ it states "With seal leaks it is a little bit of a roll of the dice. If the seal has just shrunk, the seal swell additives in Mobil 1 High Mileage can actually help re-swell the seal and help to reduce or stop the leaking seal. If the seal is damaged or worn, then it will continue to leak and will get worse with time." So is that a conditioner that swells, a sweller that conditions, or both a sweller and a conditioner additive? Hard to say.
