Switch up oil brands or stick to just one...

Many of us are primarily loyal to our checking accounts, not any brand of oil.
To the extent that constant brand switching may have some detrimental effect, that can be overcome by merely loading up on a deal when you run across it.
I tend to use the same brand and type of oil in any given car over several OCIs.
If I want to try an oil, I'll wait for a deal on it and then buy enough for at least four or five oil changes.
We should also all remember that while we may have a weak consensus on the best currently available oils, the reality is ever changing as oils are reformulated either to use a basestock readily available to a blender, like Shell's GTL, to meet new performance requirements from vehicle OEMs, to make the oil less costly to produce, or for any number of other reasons.

I have used a boat load of different oils over the years. I have stuck with SOPUS products over the last 5 years though.

How narrow minded can one be by sticking with one oil company? Really! It's like sticking with one favorite baseball or football team.

Good god another one of these. Hasnt this dead horse been beaten enough? If this ever mattered, In sticking to a particular brand of oil I would imagine this would've been back in the API SA & SB era of oils. Honestly who gives a rats [censored]. Oil is oil use whatever car oil you want. Only oil harm u can really do is use non API oil, gear oil or bar and chain lube or 2 cycle oil. Case closed leave the poor horse alone, it is after all dead already.

In addition to my statement above, I'd like to say that, I have used more Havoline oil than any other brand that I can remember. Maybe all other brands combined! And I have mixed many brands with one another as well.

Wow! You should be banned...... There has never been an issue asking oil related questions on the site. You obviously are new here, maybe you should find someplace else to troll.

You know instead of making the effort to type this fine answer you could have just moved on to the next thread.
Ohhhhhh gawd. Another one of these posts whining about a member asking a question that you actually didn't have to answer.

Op. I'm using different oils at just about every oil change.
I figure by alternating brands I'm getting each oil to clean the previous oils potential deposits and the different chemistries may end up keeping my engine cleaner by not using the same one over and over again.
Or I'm just using up all my older stuff instead of letting it age on the shelf.

Agreed! Although appropriate to disagree and have respectful debates, even razzing at times, this is just disrespectful. There is no place here for posts like that. Sometimes the distant between people sitting behind computer screens makes them lose all common decency. Hopefully a mod can take care of this, and this thread can move on.....

My family has been pretty loyal to Valvoline since I can remember. But I switch between Pennzoil and Valvoline pretty regularly. Occasionally I find good deals on stuff.

LOL! I should be banned for adding to a discussion? OK. Furthermore this is a tired old "debate" if you could even call it that. Its all opinionated. My point stands true and you all know it does. use whatever you want when you want. Flip flopping doesn't hurt a thing we all know it, no debate there. I've always done it i change oil every OCI just to give 'em all a try and see what my truck and "butt dyno" like the best. Lets be real here guys most of us do it for the warm fuzzy feeling and sleep better at night.

Why post if it tires you so. It would likely bother you less if you excluded yourself from posting since you know all and cannot be bothered helping a less informed member. Not posting, and moving on to a thread where you can enlighten others with questions you find are more relevant or important would be a much better use of your valuable time I'm sure.
