Hey guys, just seeking some opinions on oil for my Toyotas (2010 2.5L w/66k and 2012 3.5L w/80k)both vehicles call for 0/20 of course. Both are driven easy with lots of hwy miles. Right now I do conventional 5/20 for 5K oci and filters at 10K for both vehicles. (I tried a 10K oci with 0/20 PP in the 2.5L and it consumed about 1/2 quart which I didn't like so went back to the conventional 5/20 @ 5K. never noticed any consumption on the 5w so I don't know if it was the 0w or the longer oci)
Cost around here is about 15.00 for a 5qt jug of conventional. I usually go with the budget friendly Mobil Super 5w20. But today I noticed that the Supertech "Synthetic" 5/20 was only $2 more than "Name brand" conventional. Would there be any benefit in running the supertech? Would it be good for say...7500 mile oci's ?? would it offer any other benefits above and beyond the Mobil? Thanks for your advice.

I had good luck with it in the 5w30 and 5w-20 grades

M1 has $12 rebates and Pennzoil Platinum has $10 rebates - both on 5 qt jugs and you can get two rebates on each. Apply online w/o having to mail anything. SuperTech is fine if you don't want to deal with rebates, but I don't think it's of the same quality as either M1 or PP which are now cheaper.

You'd be safe at 7.5k intervals with any API SN oil. Supertech synthetic will be fine.

It is a good oil, but if you play your cards right, you can get a synthetic oil plus a filter (I am assuming yours are the pricey cartridge filters?) for only a few $$$ more.

Oil is fine. It is often the "everyday" lower price. However, like others have mentioned, a few brands are running rebates and specials that make it similar in the end.

1/2 QT in 10k miles is very little usage. It was likely the longer run. ST is good oil. Quaker State Ultimate Durability is a bargain as well at just over $20 for 5qts.

I believe member Al ran it to 10k without issue if memory serves. He even did a/few used oil analysis I think and posted them.

ST synthetic is good oil.Its on the level of name brand/more expensive stuff.I gave up trying to find PU and use ST instead...money saved.

Agree. You don't even need to top-off with 1/2 qt low.

For $5-6 more per 10k OCI with name brand synthetic is 50 cents per 1k driving, you probably spend more than $50 for gas(assume that you get 40 MPG and $2/gal regular) for that distance, another 50 cents is nothing.

+1. Supertech is great. But with the rebates, Pennzoil Ultra comes out to the same price as ST.
