SuperTech oil filter question

I done a fast search, but could not verify...

Have all the supertech filters from walmart gone to the e-core design ? I purchased a supertech for my mothers 3800 (buick/GM) and peering inside it is the e-core design... tonight looking at filters for my 02 accord (3593A) and looked at the inside of the three they had, and they all had the metal cage inside.. I'm not wanting a battle of which is bets, I prefer the metal cage verses the nylon/plastic cage... so I purchase all three of these for a whopping $9 or so total..

On edit entered 3593A and found all the info I needed.. seems they have not gone e-core on this filter as of yet, and I have 3 filters which I have zero problems using.. I used to run this filter often, and looking at it again I wonder just how much I "need" the top tier filters I have been using as of late.. I normally put between 13k-20k on a filter, and I don't see any problems running the supertech the same distance...

My opinion on the e-core if they had made the filter with a nylon inner cage in a mesh type similar to the metal I would have zero problems using it, and think it just as good as the metal, however I don't like the construction of the e-core cage.. and that's my opinion.

Below a certain diameter, the e-core design cannot be used. The change over is 2.5" or 3", cant remember.

Wow 13-20K on a $3 filter!?!? I just would be a little apprehensive doing that. I would at least change it halfway to be safe. I'm not saying they are bad filters but some people would use a Mobil 1 Extended Performance, Pennzoil Platinum, Royal Purple, Fram Extended Guard for that kind of mileage. I would change it twice for peace of mind. But it is just an opinion. Usually (but not always) you get what you pay for.

I may very well do that, the 20k comes from back to back runs on conventional.. which I have not done in awhile... but do/have done it many times using filters as your mentioned.. but for the 13k or so I will not remove the filter, this is one one OCI running synthetic ..Edge, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, PP etc

If you run a supertech filter that long, posts some pics of it cut open please. Just curious would a e core cage become more prone to cracking/breaking in a long oci? Due to excessive heat, cool downs etc...

Be careful, rclint. Super Tech filters are not designed for extended OCI. Personally, I think they're fine for 3-5k but would not use them beyond 7500 tops. Use an AMSOIL or a FRAM XG for OCIs longer than 10k.

What I have seen, is not the cage failing, but the media getting pushed flat against it and causing the oil pressure to cut out a chunk of media because the large distance between the "bars" on the cage offers relatively little support.

If they would 1. QC the media better to keep the pleats in place at 90° from the cage, 2. Tighten up the distance between the cage bars, 3. Go to a silicon ADBV/Bypass combo valve, 4. QC the endcap gluing better (which they may have done.) and 5. Maybe a little more efiicient media...then they are all I would use. But I don't need media floating around my oil galleries.

Why in the world would you want to not change filters when changing your oil ?? Your filter is where most of the crud stays and just putting new oil in dirties it right away. Filters are cheap protection.
