This is a Craftsman mower with this engine. It comes with Craftsman 30 weight, is this oil fine to use? Got it at Walmart for $2.27.

And for future reference, any harm in using PP5w30,etc or 40wt HDEO?

Sorry the noobness, got a house with a lawn now :)

a straight 30W is an excellent choice for that motor in your climate. briggs does approve of synth 5w30; but I wouldn't in a lawnmower - only in a snowblower.

I have two (2) trash pumps that I use for lawn and garden watering. One has a B&S 5.5HP Intek and the other a 5 HP Honda. Run both on Amsoil 10W30 for small engines. Never an issue and these pumps really accumulate the hours in the dry years. One oil change per season and the Honda is 10 years old and the Briggs is 5 years old.

Thanks for the responses guys. Not that it matters; but technically it's a 6.25HP B&S

Anyone have a VOA for Supertech HD SAE30?

Panthermike, is it SL or SM in-between the double circle doughnut on the back of the bottle?

If it were me and I wanted a low cost oil, I would take back the Supertech and get some PYB HD SAE30, or Castrol HD 30, or for the AZ summer heat PYB HD SAE40 or Castrol HD SAE40 those are low cost oils that I would feel safe with.
