They don’t even require an API license oil either, all that’s required for warranty coverage is an oil that doesn’t cause a failure. Every warranty statement ever posted here is the same language.

Depending on which dexos license it is, I’d use an oil that meets either VW 502 00 or 504 00. There’s no indication that VW has changed their approvals due to this supply interruption, and both those are demanding approvals that are equivalent or better than anything GM requires for dexos. Plus both can be found at Walmart for a very good price.
If you feel that a non-Dexos oil will cause engine harm, that’s fine. Use what makes you feel good and sleep well at night.
That's not it at all. I am just trying to ensure I am not doing anything to void the warranty during the 5 year powertrain period. I have a lifetime warranty on my Ram and even though it's 11 years old I make sure to use an oil that meets the Chrysler standard in case a lifter goes bad, etc. For the Colorado I am going to use Supertech without the Dexos logo.
I could probably put any oil in an it won't cause anything to fail but I'm trying to avoid a repair being denied under the factory warranty.
To @kschachn ’s point, OEM oil specifications are just setting a minimum spec. There are plenty of other specs, mainly Euro, that meet and often exceed the Dexos spec for instance.
A higher/better spec will not cause a mechanical failure that a lower/less stringent spec would have prevented.
