Hey guys, I have a question concerning oil filter size. The mopar filter that came on my Ram 1500 3.7L v6 is a good 1.5 inches longer than the Supertech ST10060 that I have on it now. I don't really know if it makes any difference or not, but I do wonder if the smaller filter is a disadvantage. I figure the bigger one holds maybe 30% more oil, all things considered. The truck will receive oil and filter changes every 5k miles using Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 and the Supertech (depending) oil filter. It's driven 80-90% highway miles.

Supertech oil filters are perfectly fine for 5k ocis. They are smaller than the (non ecore) pf52s and I use them with no issues.

Cut them both open. The outside of a filter has little to do with how much media. Any fool with a hacksaw and a tape measure can see who is giving him the most media. How good of media? who knows?

I seem to remember someone saying that due to the Ecore design you can fit the same filter media in a shorter can. The patented by pass in the base may be the contributing factor.
