Depends on the OCI, use conditions and what the filter is rated for. Honda and a few other car makers who say to change the filter every other OCI can explain it, but maybe those Honda engineers don't know that they're doing. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why someone would skip changing the filter at the time the oil is changed. Please don’t even try to explain it to me. I still won’t understand.

Honda isn't the only manufacture that's recommended oil filter changes every other OCI under a normal (not severe) service schedule.PS, I don't necessarily have an issue with using oil filters for multiple OCIs. Like you said, depends on many factors whether it's advisable or not.
Not stuck. ST is cheap and has decent reputation. Ultra has more capacity and better rep so feel better about using it for a longer stretch. Both available at Walmart.A few here got me to take a look at the MicroGard Select.
Any reason you are stuck on the Fram or Supertech?

Readily available. I also use Wix instead of the ultra occasionally.A few here got me to take a look at the MicroGard Select.

I also maintain 4 vehicles, and I chose to simplify my maintenance (Simple is good) by doing 5,000 mile / 6 months (whichever comes first)How did you determine that the proper OCI for all-4 of your vehicle engines are 6k OCIs?
Are the oil brands and grades all the same too?
That's Interesting! For all we know here at BITOG, your-4 could be (hypothetical) GDI - TGDI - MPI and DOHC engines.... all little-bit different from one another.
I maintain four vehicles and I adopted three different OCI timetables - three different oils - two different filter brands - two different grades of oils. I adopted a mind-frame on what's best for the engines and not what's best for things like simplifying the routine. I use a phone calendar and notification system for reminders, since mine appear different and a little more complicated from yours. In the old days, I hung a wall calendar on the garage wall for scheduling maintenance matters.
Whatever works best for each individual and each individual vehicle I guess. That's all that matters-most.... trying to make both the maintainer and the engine happy campers.
I vote for the Supertech filter every 6k OCI btw.
Honda recommends changing the oil filter ever other change (like you mentioned).Depends on the OCI, use conditions and what the filter is rated for. Honda recommends changing the oil filter ever other change (like you mentioned).
Toyota recommends 10,000 mile oil changes.
The good thing is that their recommendations are reducing long term global environmental damage by reducing by 50% the amount of waste oil and filters. So it's a good thing for the earth.
That's hysterical. Never thought of it that way.I like the idea of reduced materials in landfill or recycling centers. But changing oil and skipping the filter is like taking a shower and putting on the same underwear ya took off.
That's hysterical. Never thought of it that way.
I personally would not be afraid to run the Champ XL for two oil changes, the filtering on these filters are as good as any premuim filter in my opinionWhen I stop seeing a container ship full of Chinese trinkets float into Charleston harbor every hour, I will worry more about our landfill.
The current Supertech is just the cheapest Champ / luber finer build. I personally would not go that route. I used to love the Supertech MP / Champ XL's - but they are no more.
If you want to go to a cheaper filter - see what the cost of a Ecogard X, Hengst, or even an OEM filter is.
If you want to run 2X - I don't really have a problem with that, but I would step up to the Fram Endurance - at least it still has a type of backing, or to the higher end Premium Guard / Ecogard / carquest premium for premium build quality.
What your oil choice And filter? I like simple myself also 4-5k or 6 month.I also maintain 4 vehicles, and I chose to simplify my maintenance (Simple is good) by doing 5,000 mile / 6 months (whichever comes first)
oil changes with a low cost Dexos 1 Gen 3 approved full synthetic high mileage 5W-30.
The time component is very important so you can avoid sludge due to short tripping in cold weather.
I prefer Super Tech High Mileage Full Synthetic 5W-30 in the 5 quart jugs from Walmart. I bought an exact knife and stainless steel funnel with a metal strainer from Amazon to safely remove the clingy spout protection on the Super Tech oil containers. What your oil choice And filter? I like simple myself also 4-5k or 6 month.
That’s because it’s not the same thing at all. When you change your oil there is always going to be about 10-20% of the old oil left behind. So you never start out any interval with 100% clean oil anyway. So to add in another 2-3% of the old oil by leaving the old filter on really makes no difference whatsoever. That's hysterical. Never thought of it that way.
