You got it. I was running NGs but was unimpressed with the last one that came out. The last few delco's I've used have worked very well.

We have a 2003 l200 with the 2.2 I've been using Frams.
And ive had no problems.

I did replace the cap in 2004 because i messed up the plastic nut.

I tried to use wix but the wix filters had glue all over the pleats.

I will continue to use fram, although i hate fram.

That's how I install them as well. With this method, you KNOW that the end is correctly snapped and seated into the cap. There is no room for error.

If you notice it taking more torque than usual to tighten the cap you better pull it back out next time instead of driving on it for 10k miles. Don't get uptight about it and try to blame evil Supertech and the entire country of Korea. Everyone's botched an oil change in one way or another at some point.

Seriously dude, I click the filter on the cap FIRST. I then screw the cap on BY HAND and snug it with a socket. You indicate that crushing happens with these filters, yet I installed it wrong?

It's not from incorrect installation, it's because there is no uniformity in the filter construction and cheaper materials. This has only happened to me using Made in Korea filters. The Made in Korea media is more brittle and thinner than the USA filters. It is MOST CERTAINLY the manufacturers fault.

I just returned from Walmart and examined a 1/2 dozen ST, both Made in USA and Made in Korea models. NO TWO Made in Korea models were the same length! (holla - YOU reading this?). I also examined a couple of Frams, one of which was about 2-3mm TALLER than the USA Supertech's!

I'll stop at Advance and get the Delco next time. There was way too much variation in filter height for my liking.

Made in Korea[ ]

Hey, maybe I'll be able to install it correctly too

The first looked fine after 3 months and 6K. It has been a struggle to find reasonable priced ones and American made. The Purolators did come out twisted, but I blamed that on perhaps being slightly too high. Somebody here suggested you need to coat the ends with oil, but I kept forgetting.

Oh, not only do I want one made in America, but by an American company that keeps the good jobs here too.

If the manufacture makes the filter too long, then it's the manufacture's fault the filter gets crushed upon installation. When you install a cartridge filter you really can't "over tighten" the cap enough to make a real difference in the "crush factor". The real crush factor is based on IF the filter is made the correct overall length for the physical space it's supposed to go into or not.

As what? And how many were acquired with "buying in"? My old company increased sales by 30%. They bought one of their competitors. Banging job in besting the competition

Just a quick update.

My Mom came down for the winter change on her 2.2L Cobalt.
She had 7,200 miles on Q-Torquepower and a USA Supertech filter.
When I pulled the filter, it was fine! No brittle media as I had found in the Korean version, or blow outs.

I replaced with Q-Torquepower 5W30 and a Purolator Pure One that my wife found for $5.00 (it's nice when Mama bear supports your oil interests!). The Pure One was very well constructed and I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up in Spring.

Take care.

My Pontiac takes that same exact filter. I have never had this problem but I have seen the pleats starting to stretch like that on fram extra guard filters I used to use. Ever since then I have used Napa gold filters for the Pontiac and never had a problem. The plastic seems a lot stiffer and stronger on the napa gold compared to the cheaper filters.
AC delco are a champion labs filter, just like the super-tech. Aren't they the same filter, even for this application?

I don't know if they use the same exact material for both the ST and AC filters, but I would guess that they are.
I also don't know if the AC has versions made in the USA or Korea (or other locations). I haven't been able to find anymore "made in USA" filters on the shelf (only Korea) so I won't be going back to ST.

This makes for an interesting statement, but can you explain why you believe cartridge filters are not good for 10?

Exactly what I was thinking. "Everyone"? That's a pretty bold statement.
I've done more oil changes than I can count and have NEVER "botched" one in any way.

+2. I've had a quick lube botch one, and have therefore since stuck to sticking to doing my own for that reason.
