supertech atf for ford powersteering.

Hey guys,

I flushed a gallon of supertech merconIII through the power steering system in my 98 f150. The book calls for merconIII in the power steering rack, and merconV in the transmission.

At walmart I seen the supertech gallon jug for 4 bucks. I couldn't pass it up.

I was wondering if warren was making this stuff, or is quaker state making it now?

As for the truck it has 45k miles, and the fluid looked brand new as I was flushing it out.

I plan on driving this truck for a long time, and am keeping all the fluids squeeky clean.

I have flushed fords with 80 or 90k miles, and the factory fluid looks black as syrup, so for four bucks a gallon, I'll gladly flush the rack once a year with fresh atf.

Not only does it look like syrup, it usually smells like burnt toast at that mileage.

I use Supertech ATF in my Corolla and Sienna's automatic transmissions.I am happy with the results in both applications.

Seems like about the only PS systems that are truly at risk if manufacturer proprietary PS fluid isn't used as back fill and/or flush are Honda's. Since Mercon and Dexron III are interchangeable in Ford Applications that don't call for Type F or Mercon V, you're fine. I've never had any problems with SuperTech fluids. (I just recently noticed that SuperTech "Multivehicle" ATF is sanctioned by name as a Mercon V(tm) fluid, too.)
