Hi

I am going to flush the power steering fluid for a 2006 Nissan Frontier

I understand it takes dexron atf.

I am thinking of using super tech and then noticed that the Valvoline was cheaper:

Any reasons not the use the Valvoline?

Nothing wrong with the Valvoline PSF, but a better fluid in my view would be the HPL BlueCC ATF which has the same viscosity of 7.2cSt@100C, a very stable DI additive pack, and a majority PAO base for low temperature operation.

This year of Nissan would most likely specify the NissanMatic D which was nothing more than a copy of the typical Dex/Merc.

Those are both Dex III equivalents. You are good with either. Your PS is not picky. Whatever you can get cheap will be fine for PS duty.

If you want a full syn atf with a similar viscosity, try ATF+4. Valvoline also has a "multi vehicle import" ATF that is full syn and pretty close.

If you want a full syn and don't mind stepping down in viscosity, Dex-VI, Valv MaxLife, etc.

I used the cheap oriellys houe brand dex ATF that I found on sale for our 07 sienna & 03 Matrix. The turkey baster method is easy (2 times.)

Honestly you just need some clean fluid that is close in viscosity.

I use Mobil 1 Full Syn MV or a full syn DEX VI in my Volvo 240s. GM Saginaw pump. 10k OCI.

After 10 years I have yet to have an issue.

I use Maxlife ATF in my 2007 Camry for both the transmission and power steering. It works great in both and I have no reason to use anything else unless they stop making it.

Used cheap O'Reillys ATF with the Turkey baster on the kids cars... an 07 Sienna & 03 Matrix. Better than it was....

My Bimmer gets Pentosin CHF11S...

In my Xterra, (same car as your frontier) I run Valvoline max life red bottle in the transmission, transfer case, and power steering. Have since new, all 3 perform like new.

Been running ATF in every PS system since the mid 90s. GM, Ford and Ram. I just looked for something that had good cold flow. It makes a world of difference on the frigid start ups.

I’ve been running Mobil 1 ATF Dexron III with no issues but I’m thinking of switching to Idemitsu just because it’s not dyed red. It’s $4.80/12oz from NAPA.
