Supertech 9018 Cartridge filter

I just changed the oil (second time on 'this' engine, bought car in December) and filter on my L200. I put 2600 miles on this OCI. It was supertech syn 5w30 and (IIRC) a Supertech 9018 oil filter.

Interesting find in the pleats. It, of course, didnt look like that when I installed it. I have used no coolant whatsoever and there is no evidence of moisture in the engine (I drive the car daily 60+ miles a day, more on the weekends).

Is this the MO for supertech cartridge filters?! For only 2600 miles, Im not impressed....

The cross reference of ST9018 to Mann ML1015, Wix 57082, K&N HP-7000. K&N HP-7000 is very good but a little expensive at more than $10.

Mann ML1015 is much cheaper at $2.xx +shipping from Rockauto. If you buy several filters and other items at once, shipping cost per item may be as low as $1 each, or less.

Looks like it got crushed. Probably a tad taller than OEM?

For my next OCI (Car is still out in the driveway draining, I will let it drain until probably 9pm tonight), I plan on using a Purolator Pureone. I bought 2 on sale at Kmart. I also have 2 regular Purolator Classics I could use.

Really though, with the Supertech oil filter - I wont be buying another one of those!! That filter looks like it was beat to h*ll and back.

Is that the correct part number filter for your vehicle? It does indead appear to be to long. Was there is rubber seal or specer that was supposed to be on the canister cap that was missing?

No, thats the right oil filter indeed.

The oil filter snaps into the oil filter lid (cap).

I just found this thread, btw. This isnt that uncommon for the Supertech cartridge filter #9018 apparently!

The made in Korea 9018's are junk!

I've made the switch to Purolator Pure One's and will not look back. The ST9018's that were made in the USA were pretty good, but I have been unable to find any more of them.

Yes, I did and Im glad! Looks like we had very similar experiences with the ST9018.

Scary thought: I only drove 2600 miles on this OCI, of which 1200 miles were all highway (1 recreational trip, 1 business trip). The remaining miles were 70% highway/30% city. What would've happened if I ran that Supertech filter for 5000-6000 miles like I had planned?!? Or ran it in ALL city driving? that sucker would've been history. And probably my engine too.

The Supertech ST9018 filter I pick up at Walmart for my car was made in the USA and looked much better than that one in the picture. The Carquest i took out looked just like that one did though and it had 3000 miles on it.

I noticed that you had a 2002 car, did you update the oil filter cap to the new style that GM released?

Mine would crush oil filters like that with the original cap, but with the revised cap they dont look bad.

GM sells a cap with an oil filter for 10 dollars at the dealer, buy it if you don't already have one.

I like the OEM filters for this application, I have yet to see an ecotec filter that is as well made as the delco.

The fram, supertech, and purolator seem to be of the same quality. I have not seen a pure one, so I can not comment. A delco filter is about 4 dollars at advance auto parts, so you are not saving much using a non oem filter.

My car has the new revised oil filter cap.

The Pureones are much more stout. You cannot twist it if you tried and the pleats are much more stiff. Im betting that at my next OCI, it wont be all twisted up like the Supertech filter was!!
