Yeah, $4-$5 a gallon gas/diesel will sure help it....

$3-$4 is doing wonders

I'm hope these trucks don't mind being behind my 115hp sunfire!

It's cool that they offer uber-HP on the model. Sounds like fun if you can afford it.

What's not cool is the new Corolla is only rated at 35MPG. That's NOT moving forward.

I think the re-re-revised EPA numbers are to blame here.

My Corolla was rated for 41mpg highway which I beat by 2-3 mpg every tank. 4 of my coworkers have 2007-8 Corollas and 3 of them beat the EPA by 6 mpg. The other beats it by 4 mpg.

Here is the link explaining new EPA vs old. Corolla EPA old vs new Automatic

Here is the new vs old for my car (SAME year, NEW EPA) 2005 Corolla 5 speed

Notice the 41 MPG highway vs the new 37 mpg hwy. SAME car. Just the "numbers" have changed.

Here is my 2007 Outback. 2007 Outback.

Same car lost 2 mpg highway.

Take care, bill

Previous 1zzfe models with a 5 speed can. My last 5 tanks have averaged 43.8 mpg.

My co-workers are getting 41-44mpg with their 5 speeds. The one that has an auto is getting around 41mpg.

I don't know anyone with a 2009.

Now drive it like a fool and no car is going to get 40mpg. But do your part and the car will do it.

Take care, Bill

I wouldn't have expected that question from a guy with a modded GN. People with power will use it, and the gas mileage will suffer, and they will use more gas.

You're right in my case, I did not understand it was an aftermarket add-on being discussed. Toyota has been offering factory aftermarket superchargers for a long time. Add-ons notwithstanding, the Toyota V8s in general are increasingly overpowered gas-hogging behemoths and although I don't begrudge anybody the right to drive what they want, I still think as a matter of personal opinion that a little more restraint among buyers would be desirable.

toyota figured out that American drivers aren't interested in restraint. T-100? failed. 1st gen tundra? failed. new tundra? all over the place. people that want/need trucks either want it small OR big, not 'mid-sized'. It would seem they focused on the 1/2 ton truck 1st, since that is what most regular people buy, and I would expect that 3/4 and 1 ton (and duallys) will follow.
I think toyota knows exactly what they are doing. offering a supercharger option probably didn't require a lot of manpower, it gets in the mags, gets people in the door to buy more basic trucks. pure marketing more than performance.

I understand, just trying to point out that you "can" get about the same mileage and you have the potential to get worse depending on driving habits. I've gotten 27mpg in the GN before but average is about 8mpg because I enjoy using it.

Toyota didn't build this. This is TRD, an aftermarket product producer for us Toyota owners. If owners are willing to pay for it, the automaker, like any other business, has a right to sell the product. The 'other' aftermarket supercharger/turbocharger companies are NOT running out to supply every vehicle made every product that some owners want. Its a good move for Toyota and TRD(which usually seems to have low production runs). Try to buy some of the older TRD parts over the years---all sold out.

500hp!!! Still NOT enough for some!!!

There's a pickup truck in EVERY driveway on this street. NONE are found working or on a construction site around here. Maybe you need to open your mind to the market segment that Toyota is targetting. I think the Tundra has fit it perfectly as always, like the rest of their products. They do not need to be #1 in sales to produce a superior product AND make money doing it.

TRD is great since it can be installed by dealers without voiding warranty, which is the biggest aftermarket fear of the modding consumer. Toyota/Scion has a bunch of aftermarket dealer installed stuff; intakes, headers, exhausts, superchargers, rims, wings, stickers, shifters, shift knobs, skidplates, interior trim......... why not if its profitable to do so???????

Even when gasoline hits $10 a gallon, there will those that still mod away!!

Thats pretty cool, ive got a buddy at work who took his 2006 Tundra with the 4.7L (stock) to the drag strip since his tires were due for a tire change...why not have alittle fun. He ran up aginst a modded Cummins with the Banks setup and bet him by the slightest of margin. Hes also raced Hemi's and Chevys.

If you can afford it why not.

Why not? Air pollution and the depletion of a finite resource. Nobody who's old enough to be a contributing member of this forum will probably live long enough to see the complete depletion of the world's crude supply, but continuing to create the new and better gas hog only gets us closer with each one sold. Texas is the capital of of the under-utilized pickup truck world. Commuting back and forth to work in a pickup that's actually never used to pick up anything is what the basic freedoms of this country has led us to believe is the right thing to do. The rationale is that if you can afford to do it..do it, to h*ll with the rest of the world. Does your ability to spend $100 a week on gas make it the right thing to do? Right for yourself, perhaps. Right for the world? I think not. If you can think past your own financial situation for a moment, you'll realize how wrong it is.

+1

very well stated

A small (4-cyl) truck would be great to have on the odd chance that I needed to haul something somewhere, or buy something that's too large to fit in a car, and would still get me 25-30 mpg when I just need transportation.

A 504-HP V8? Don't have a use for that.
