Super Tech vs all others....

Been using ST, among others, for years. Bought tons of Kirkland, but the price has crept up.
I have both ST and Kirkland in the garage now, ready to dump into another engine!

I do 5K OCIs, or there abouts.

Oil can be sold for a much lower price when you don't have to have a marketing budget.

Does not hurt to produce the ingredients either … they all sell for what they can get for it …
Just look how many years Royal Purple got high prices while slowing dropping their own cost until the only thing originally there was, well, the purple …

Absolutely! It started years ago when I changed the timing gears in the F150 with a steel camshaft gear. After the change there was a soft knock noise coming from the gear set. This is normal and the reason Ford used an aluminum gear with a nylon sprocket. Beginning around 2010-2012 I noticed the knock became much more annoying (I believe Mobil made formulation changes around this time). About 5 years ago I began a search for an oil that would alleviate, or help, the knock noise. The only solution that was offered by Mobil was M1 HM 10w-30 with it's higher HTHS. I stumbled on to ST with a "what the heck" attitude and it worked. I was so impressed that I tried the ST in the Ranger and 4Runner. All 3 vehicles ran smoother and quieter on ST FS 5w-30.. Last year I thought I would try their FS 5w-20 offering and there was no change except the much appreciated 1 MPG average increase in the 3 vehicles.

Mobil has been using a variety of different base oils for the last several decades. What those are depends on the grade, approvals...etc. The original tri-syn formula from the 90's was just PAO/AN's/Esters. Later products integrated Group III, purchased, and then later still, Mobil's proprietary Group III+ "VISOM". More recently they are using GTL, likely purchased from SOPUS, and blending it with varying quantities of PAO. I would assume they are still using AN's and POE in whatever quantity they deem necessary to meet their performance targets, since they are one of the world's largest producers of all three of those bases (PAO, AN's, POE).

Good oil. But, 20k? Nuh uh. No more than 10k regardless of brand, and it better have a premium Wix or Purolator filter that is rated for extended change. I prefer a 5k change because in my world oil and filters are cheap insurance. Grease is cheaper than steel.

the 5w30 version is not comparable to vanilla mobil 1 let alone EP, it is an entry oil and nothing more. the 0w20 is a good value with premium base stock even if it has a boring add pack.

if we’re going to be honest the “conventional” 10k and 20k versions are probably the same. if all you need is a bare minimum D1G2/SP you will be satisfied.

if we’re going to be honest the “conventional” 10k and 20k versions are probably the same. if all you need is a bare minimum D1G2/SP you will be satisfied.

I have the PDS from Warren on these oils at home, and I recall them as being identical. I'll double check and post after returning from my trip.

I’m using it and the ST filter in my 2018 Sierra 1500 5.3.
It’s quality oil and a nice filter at a great price, and I don’t do extended change intervals because oil is too cheap and new is always better.

I used it to 'flush' a used engine upon install and the engine didn't blow up, so I believe it's as good as M1.

It would be interesting to see the UOA on any oil ran 20,000 miles and the VOA of the same oil to compare.

It's a decent oil. Buy it at Costco instead if you have one in the area. Kirkland oil is also from Warren Distribution and says so on the packaging. The Dexos License numbers will be under Costco. VOA is the same between Supertech and Kirkland because the oils come from the same place. Also, it's cheaper at Costco for two, 5 qt jugs at a total of $27 USD vs the $17 USD per 5 qt jug at Walmart under the Supertech label.

I was thinking the same thing. I actually bought a two pack of the Kirkland 0w20. I was thinking I would get oil for a rebate price, without having to take the time to claim the rebate. Then I started seeing rebate oil for free and even cheaper than free, so I fell off the bandwagon.

I can understand how that happens. I'm just tired of putting in for/waiting for rebates. I was burned the last couple of tries. I know others on here have had great success.

I have ST in my Camry now. It will stay in there 10k miles or about 2 years since I wfh now.

With Super Tech Full Synthetic now $17.98 and Pennzoil Full Synthetic $18.83 --- I will pay the couple more cents for the Pennzoil --- ALL DAY!!!
