Excellent wear numbers!

Two things have me curious though. It's a high mileage oil but it's viscosity is not very thick, and does not contain moly (5ppm is probably leftover from the previous oil)

it's my sisters car but she drives it pretty hard most of the time. not babying it at all.
the moly is probably from the the moly lube i put on the filter gasket.
it is a salvage yard engine so I don't really know the real miles they said it had same as the car. runs at 3,000rpm most of time.
didn't expect this good of wear because it consumes oil.
however I am very happy with it.

let me rephrase that (how do you drive it)
how is it driven LIKE A RENTAL CAR

Just shows that different oils react different in various engines. No Boron-no moly. And tremendous results. The ZDDP is up there though. I venture to say this oil would be shot in some engines at 3K . As usual I could be wrong and probably am

These results watered my eyes!

If you get this kind of result consistently over several UOAs it is certain that this oil and this engine just work well together!

Keep this analysis in mind guys. This only proves one thing: There is not perfect oil!
I think the strategy for choosing an oil is to run it for two intervals and move on to another, 2 more intervals on the new oil, etc, etc; then choose the winner.

Rick,

Off the record: You are absolutely right. The reason my remarks are off the record is that if I admit this formally, then if I find the right oil early in the testing period, what excuse do I have to try the other oils I am anxious to try UNLESS they are a brand new formulation and might genuinely be better than what I am using.

Bottom line is you are squarely on target with your assertion!

Great report!! I'm switching..just kidding...

"drive it like a rental car"....that's worse than Patman!

Technically this wouldn't pass API "SL"....let alone when it drops to 800ppm.

While it does dilute the wear metals, it's still impressive to see 0ppm of lead under any conditions! Even if without the top up oil it was 1 or 2ppm of lead it would be impressive.

If you get lucky/un-lucky and try your first oil and it gives you a good report, then, don't stop.....keep on trying new things. For one, you may find a cheaper oil, like say Chevron Supreme does as good as....hmmm, redline or M1 over the same mileage. Besides that, where is your adventurous spirit?

Timzak;
I missed that one, but as Patman said, it is still a good report, provided the numbers are accurate.
Rick

it has always burned oil at the higher parts of the intervel no matter what oil when miles on oil above 2000 and it starts burning it more and more.

The 1.5 quart make up oil bothers me!!! That much oil burning is going to leave deposits all over the place. I would not want to see an egr system, ring packs or oil pan after 80,000 miles with consuption that high. Remember low wear metals is just one battle it is not the entire war!

1. The dino has quite a bit of moly, the blend not.

2. Not sure where this is coming from. ST should be shifting production from Shreveport to Shell, maybe this is different than the dino stock. Does anyone know whether this looks a bit like Shell or the (Equilon) Texaco?

3. Blends aren't supposed to be worth the $$$ but many of them look pretty good in the real world.

Up here in the midwest, MEIJER is selling the same oil (10/30, 10/40 HM and 5w30 new car) blends. The quart is identical the the super tech blend and the writing is word for word. (it is different than the regular meijer oil --> citgo stuff). Point being, It is on sale for 1.29 $/quart. Full sythetic 10/30 HM (same as supertech) 2.69 or 2.99 / quart. The price is good untill 10/01/03, then the price returns to the identicle wallmart supertech price.
