Super Tech FS prices have increased again

Jeez, all the conspiracies...

It's the virus' fault-- no, Grandpa Joe-- no, the company was sold. They're printing money! They're about to raise interest rates! This 25% jump in oil prices and Cheerios at the store, and cat food, and cream cheese, and toilet paper means I should get a 25% cost-of-living increase!

How about, Wal-Mart moves prices up and down so they can claim a "Rollback" later. They are a business with profit in mind and these price movements have worked for them. (It's a form of psychological abuse, playing "hard to get" then "take me back, please".) For whatever reason there's been, historically, a substantial arbitrage between what WM charges and what the parts stores charge for oil. Some are even seeing mechanic shops buying there because it's cheaper than their wholesale price.

Why must the loss leading continue? What does WM owe you for your loyalty?

I'm at my local Walmart as I'm typing this and right now it looks like Castrol Edge and EP have the advantage across the board as far as 5 quart jug pricing goes, Valvoline is a close second. Super Tech FS is now competing with the base level Pennzoil (black label), Super Tech Advanced is just not a good deal in bottles or jugs.

Headed to Walmart to find deals in an hour or two. Let's see if I find any...

The "regular" synthetic has only gone up $2. I thought it was a bit odd that the advanced 20K mile oil was only $2 above the "regular" synthetic. I wonder if that was going to happen anyway.

The 20k ST jug in Chicago is 29 dollars which puts it in the mobil1 ep level. If this is a pritzker move it's totally idiotic. Walmart just distributes the oil which means it just offers warren oil company or the pritzkers now some shelf space and may just make a dollar of each quart or jug. and it doesn't even give it the prime shelf space. When nobody buys super tech oil the next 6 months Walmart may toss warren oil off it's shelves or force them to lower price.

I don't know how smart of a move it is by the pritzkers to buy oil and filter companies when automakers pivoting to electric vehicles

I just checked our local WM. They didn't have any of the 20k mile flavor of ST 0w20 but they did have the 10k and it was still $17 and change. The spot on the shelf for the 0w20 was still $19 and change. But nothing there. They had 3 jugs of M1 AFE 0w20 for $22.97. I was tempted, but my stash overfloweth right now.

ICE vehicles are going to be around for some time to come despite all the praise for EVs. So that market is still sound.

I am getting the notion that the smaller blenders might be getting pinched here more so than the big companies. I still think that in the months to come all oil prices will go up. The bigs have economies of scale to cushion themselves.

I agree. As long as the other oil brands don’t increase in price (too much) there’s really no point in buying Super Tech anymore. There’s still a couple brands just under $20 at Walmart. The new Castrol Full Synthetic (formerly Magnatec with intelligent molecules), the black label Pennzoil, and Havoline “Lifelong” come to mind. Plus rebates and sales.

There is a lot going on... Trucking costs are up across the board. Employee costs are up due to so many people being out due to protocols.
Walmart is thought to have the most computerized sales model in the world. The Walmart database knows the prices of oil (and everything else) everywhere. Their algorithms running on supercomputers are constantly churning out numbers.

For all you geeky dudes out there, I suggest reading about Data Science if you happen to be curious. Fascinating stuff.

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from noisy, structured and unstructured data, and apply knowledge and actionable insights from data across a broad range of application domains.

If you are a good Data Science programmer, Google will pay you $300K plus a piece of the action.

Castrol Edge 5W-30LL is still on Rollback for $21.62, with VW 504 00 and Porsche C30 approvals there are very few vehicles where this would not be an appropriate oil. It has been moving in and out of stock lately so you have to be ready to buy when it is available. This is a steal for a world-class oil.

But people don't seem to say that when doing a UOA?
True - I have stated a couple times that an UOA costs as much as my oil change - and find my OLM trustworthy …

I have also noted our industrial engines get sampled from a cooler loop at temperature and under load - but a good test is not a ticket to run the oil longer …

Some folks just see it as a health check - it’s their money … All good - I enjoy the shared info …
