Jeez, all the conspiracies...
It's the virus' fault-- no, Grandpa Joe-- no, the company was sold. They're printing money! They're about to raise interest rates! This 25% jump in oil prices and Cheerios at the store, and cat food, and cream cheese, and toilet paper means I should get a 25% cost-of-living increase!
How about, Wal-Mart moves prices up and down so they can claim a "Rollback" later. They are a business with profit in mind and these price movements have worked for them. (It's a form of psychological abuse, playing "hard to get" then "take me back, please".) For whatever reason there's been, historically, a substantial arbitrage between what WM charges and what the parts stores charge for oil. Some are even seeing mechanic shops buying there because it's cheaper than their wholesale price.
Why must the loss leading continue? What does WM owe you for your loyalty?
