2.2 Camry with 91k. Went thru some short OCI and PYB to clean it up from varnish. Runs strong and all is well. Have done ALL belts, fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, etc... Just did the valve cover seal from a small leak. Have some pics to post....

Anyone mind telling me how? I did pump a few searches on pics and nada....sure i'm missing the obvious.

I am now running Super Tech (have about 6 jugs left from old vehicle) at 6k OCI with a Puralator Classic filter. Don't want to spend the $35 on UOA and wondering what the peanut gallery says about 7k OCI????????

I'm putting 20-22k yearly on her now and would like to to see 200-225k.

I run Supertech conventional in our Malibu to nearly the OLM in winter and summer. Usually ends up about 6-6500 mile interval. UOA's showed ST does well in the 'Bu.

Host the pics at photobucket. Upload. On the right you will see "Links to share this photo". Copy the "IMG" link. Then past that to a reply over here.

Thanks for the link. These oils look very comparable on paper.

That is a useless post. How can you tell when a PCMO is done? Let alone less than the factory OCI from nearly 20 years ago.

7k seems like a good idea to me with your filter choice especially with that many miles it's going to be up to temperature a lot. I'd think about a higher quality synthetic for extended drains if I had to change three times per year. You could probably go 15k with m1 ep with a good filter.

That being said supertech synthetic is a very good bang for the buck If you don't do rebates or closeouts. I just prefer a more robust additive pack.

Compare the pqi evaluation to the other round of synthetics and you'll see the differences.

Sorry i forgot to add the link but if you want to compare the other comparable synthetics to the Supertech here they are at PQI.

You can see something like EDGE starts out with much higher TBN and should handle extended drains much better.

Starting TBN-

Supertech-8.0
Edge-11.3
M1-9.7
PP-9.0
Kendall-8.7

Ofcourse there are a lot of other factors to look at in the additive pack and how they hold up on UOAs, but your car should do well with your routine on any of those.

I'm going to use up the ST Synthetic I have in my stash and at least for now my thinking was once ST Synthetic is used up I would maybe go to PYB for 5k OCI or use the same M1 I stash for the wifes Armada and go more like 8k. Decisions, decisions!

How much oil does the car use?

The crankcase is 3.7 quarts in that car. So if you're using (for example) 1 quart every 3000 miles you can easily do 10,000 miles on any synthetic oil. Super Tech included.

The oil change interval can be extended dramatically (and safely) if your usage is a significant percentage of capacity over your target miles. Half the oil is replaced by 6000 miles.

You're a twice a year synthetic candidate at 20-22,000 miles if you have typical usage.

On my 2nd ST fill and at 5k now. Haven't had to add any. Dipstick showing upper fill level. She burned some PYB on me but not a lot. Was hitting it hard at extended 90+ runs in northern Vermont on the hills of I-91. But, also could have been due to the small cracks in the valv cover gasket (now replaced). Pretty clean engine and not a burner so far.

Sounds like the car is in fantastic shape. You'll get 300,000 miles out of it if you keep it that long. Good luck with it.

Thanks...yes it was originally owned and garaged by my aunt. She didn't drive much and when she passed it on to my grandfather he was already late 80's. He also garaged and didn't drive much. Only concern was some varnish as most trips were darn short. Now it sees 12miles or more just about every trip.

You need to host them on a server (imageshack, photobucket, etc.) and then use the links you get from them and post them here. You can click on the icon, fourth from the left, right above the message compose box on this forum to paste the image url.

Or you can send them to me and i'll do that. PM for my email.

Considering it's one the most reliable cars ever made and yours is well cared for...it might outlive the both of us!

At least! IMO, with his annual mileage and assuming a reasonable number of cold starts across those miles, I'd just change it annually.
