Word has it my VOiP service closed up shop? Canned everybody and locked the doors! No warnings. Why those dirty !@#$%. I had this service since 2005 and it's been awesome. The site still works, as does the phone. For how long is the mystery. Any word on Packet8? I don't care for the quality of Vonage and don't wish to go that way. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Joel

I recently switched from Vonage to Lingo and am finding it to be less costly and they have all the features of Vonage plus a few more.

It looks like the ~200,000 Sunrocket customers are up for grabs to current VOiP providers. One minute you hear it's Packet8, then another...... So far our phone is still working. I'm going to try to wait it out. I just can't go back to a $40-50/mo hard land-line after several years of less than $17/mo.

I use WideOpenWest, our cable provider, for VOIP service. Every once in a while the phone gets a bit garbled but overall I'm happy, especially since the cost is less than half of a regular phone line.

I'm glad you like it!

I actually found that on a Google search for funny sig lines. There were lots more, but no others that would fit in the rather tight confines they give you here.

I had Sunrocket. I signed up two months ago last year so I didn't get burned as bad as some people. Either way, I'm sick and tired of their e-mails telling you to sign up for Packet8.

I signed up with Vonage because #1. Reviews say it won't go bankrupt anytime soon and #2. I used it in the past. Review websites gave Packet8 and other VOIP startups low scores and comments like "We don't know if this company will be around long enough to provide a year's worth of service."

So I'm through using these new startup companies that can go bankrupt at a second's notice. You get what you pay for.

Luckily I didn't get burned too badly. My last $199 contract renewal w/ SR was in Nov 2006, so I got ~8mo out of it. We did wind-up going with Packet8. Just setup mine and my MOL's tonight. Setup literally took seconds, they transfered our #'s before I could get them setup, and so far the call quality is land-line like. Hopefully this one doesn't go belly up in the next few months! I guess you have to be willing to accept the risk with $200/yr home phone service.

You won't get burn if you paid with your credit card. All you need to do is to contest the charge.

There is a thread on this subject on the old SunRocket forum at http://www.sunrocketforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2598&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I decided in the long run it wasn't worth the aggravation and figured at least I'm keeping the phones and Innomedia ATA. I'm using it with the Gizmo Project and a GrandCentral number. I works fine and in the long run will be cheaper for me than SunRocket.

Another option that looks really cool is MagicJack.

I went with ViaTalk. So far everything is working and I like the 2 lines feature which you can make 2 out going calls at the same time. I'm still waiting for my SR number to port over.

If you have anymore Grandcentral invits left? Care to send one my way?

I got ~8 months out of that $199, so I'm still ahead of the game IMO. I'd feel differently had I just signed on with SR & lost the money. So far my 8x8 service has been a flawless replacement.

My understanding, and I hope I'm wrong, is that when the CC company is unsuccessful at recouping the money from SunRocket they will take back the credit they gave you. That's why I figured its a fruitless effort to try for a refund... it's only temporary.
