Sunday, 7:45AM, a Great time to mow the lawn

Groucho - No, but as much as I hate blowers, even I will admit that rakes don't work that well on sidewalks.

Another gripe, similar to the without-a-clue-Walmart-aisle-blockers thread. When you used a rake, you also used a bag to dispose of the debris. So you would think that a rake-replacement would also use a bag? NO! The additional power of a blower now lets you blow debris out into the street, or into the storm drains, so apparently that is what you are "supposed" to do. The idea of a public commons which should be respected and maintained has completely vanished from the American mentality.

At various times in my life I have lived next to inconsiderate neighbors. Listening to all night parties and then having to go to work the next day is not fun. Leaving my stereo on at super loud volume when I go to work that morning, now that's fun.

You know the saying - "don't get mad, get even".

I'll trade the early lawn mowing for the 6 dogs I had to listen to 24/7 too. Apparently, the natural cleansing of the human gene pool gets backlogged.

I have to agree about dog barking. We have a bit of a problem with that, but it is isolated to about an hour every evening. People who have to experience it continuously certainly have my sympathies.

I use a broom to sweep the clippings back into the yard. Works great and is quiet.

I really hate seeing people blowing their trash into the streets where I live in the city. It is also annoying to drive in the rural areas where may parents live, and have people mowing their grass into the street where they won't have to worry about cleaning it up. And they don't even stop pushing the mower to let you drive past; they just spatter the car with their clippings (and any small stones the mower picks up). Disgusting. I always mowed toward the inside for at least a couple passes near the streets to keep from blowing stuff in the road and damaging vehicles.

Wow...don't any of you folks live in places that have town bylaws???

I work for a suburban police department, and our noise bylaw is 7am, and every year it takes just a visit or two from us to make any new town resident comply with that ordinance really quickly...if not (and yes, there are repeat violators) there is a fine which gets very hefty very fast beyond the third offense...

We had an interesting one a little while ago.

Saturday evening about 9PM, and hear a few helicopters entereing town, on a crisp winter evening.

A little while later, there's machine gun fire, 50 cals blazing etc for nearly an hour.

WE couldn't get through to the Police, as they were jammed with calls.

Turns out that they had an "exercise" by the military at the rifle range, and had failed to tell the neighbours, nor the Police.

More recently, they told us all to expect one, but hovered a helicopter over a house too close and covered a 7 year old in shattered glass.

In comparison, the old guy using a motorised edge trimmer at 7:30 is heaven.

Shannow,

The incident with the 7 year old covered in shattered glass is unfortunate ... however, the next time the military is conducting exercises near your residence remember that's the sound of freedom you're hearing.

Guess I'm luckier than most. I live in a somewhat tight cul-de-sac where the houses are about 40 feet apart. Everyone respects noise/privacy "rules". About the only sound you'll hear at that time is the hose filling up my car-wash bucket.
