I've learned that if you want an answer to anything....from brewing beer to growth hormones to removing rocks...Pablo is THE MAN!! I hate to say it, but I like to hang out in the general section and the maintenance section. I'm at a happy place with my dedication to M1 across the board for everything. I mean EVERYTHING....lawn mower oil, car oil, boat oil, differential fluids. I feel that if I keep digging into motor oils, I'll just get more confused. I will say this, this site has made me a true believer of the more than 3K OCI's, of which I had a habit of doing taught down to me from Dad and Grandpa, but those were different oils and a different time. I am still not convinced that thinner is better.

Pablo,Buster, Terry, Johnny, and others are some of the most knowledgeable people I have found at this web site. I like their posts. Since Johnny has retired from Pennzoil I don't see his posts as often as I used to. I wish he would post more often. I used to love Bob's posts too when he ran this web site. It was really a shock to me when he had to give up this web site because of health reasons.

Have discovered that there is a huge amount of good information here for the asking. Coming from a large group of individuals with great automotive backgrounds, educations, and experience.
Also a few who don't know sheet from shineola! Dangerous part is that if you don't have some basic automotive knowledge you might not be able to tell the difference.

I have now been a member of bobistheoilguy.com for quite a long time now. I am not really sure how long, but I am member number 1000 something and there are now over 13,000 members. So it has been a while.

A long time ago I was a big Pennzoil guy. My Dad, who was a really super mechanic (he could fix anything) used Conoco oil. I almost always used Pennzoil until I started to hear the silly Pennzoil sludge myth. Even a lot of mechanics I knew bought into this. I myself bought into it and started using Valvoline oil until I discovered this web site.
I now buy motor oil based on used oil analysis and what I hear from people at this web site, not on some silly rumor that gets spread around somehow. This web site is an incredible resource for people trying to determine what the best brand of motor oil for their car or truck is. Any good quality SM-rated oil will probably be good enough in a gasoline engine car or truck but if you can get a somewhat better quality oil, perhaps even at a better price, it does help.
I have totally dropped brand loyalty. Right now Chevron, Pennzoil, and Halvoline look pretty good based on used oil analysis presented at this web site but if one year from now Valvoline looked the best I would be willing to switch.
I am kind of old fashioned and I still like the idea of the 3000-5000 mile oil change. I like using the best conventional motor oil I can find for the summer, spring, and fall. But I also like the idea of using a synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or Pennzoil synthetic for the winter months. Synthetic simply flows better in the cold.

also, the gm oil life monitor probably knows way more than i do so 3000 miles is way to soon for just about any name brand oil.
i like a synthetic in the winter since the car does a lot of sitting around waiting for nicer weather. i want the oil to stick to the parts when i dont circulate it.

Yea, for sure. This is one forum where you can ask a question on almost any subject and get reliable, throught provoking answers.
I also found that if I would have just continued to go with 3000 mile OCI with Conventional Oil I could have saved thousands of hours viewing BITOG.
