Sue tripped and face planted on the sidewalk, breaking bones

Just last week I was messing around in the front yard, and caught the tip of my shoe on a raised section of concrete on the sidewalk in front of my house. It was one of those deals where I took off running to try and catch myself from falling forward.

I rand a good 15 feet before I was able to catch myself on the mailbox. Otherwise I would have face planted on the concrete for sure.
I went for a run late at night one time but fell after a local electrical company dug up some concrete but didn't put up cones or anything. Knocked the wind out of me

Spoke to her an hour ago. She’s fine, more embarrassed than anything else. She did tell me that it was chilly yesterday and they were walking at night - and she had both hands in her jeans pockets because her hands were cold. Never walk with your hands in your pockets! This explains the face plant!

Oh my! We underestimate the vulnerability of everyday living and how quick things can turn. I echo the sentiments of everyone else, wishing for a speedy and full recovery.
Yes we do. 3 weeks ago I had a sliver of light come and go in my left eye which we are watching because of an epiretinal membrane. Since it was the same eye I called the retina specialist. Next day I had surgery to repair a detached retina. Had my 3 week check and it is doing fine. I just won't be able to see out of my left eye for another month due to a gas bubble they put in the eye to hold the retina in place. I just have to wait for the gas bubble to get absorbed.
My point is that stuff happens and just comes out of nowhere to really affect your life. She told me yesterday I could start lifting stuff again but not much else.

Hmmm.... This picture will cancel out the broken nose one!

Your wife looks like she could be related to my youngest niece.

That’s great! So scary…

My aunt in law took a spill and slammed her face. I can’t understand how folks fall forward and hit their face. But it happens to many it seems. Is there a way to lear how to fall defensively? I’m sure that’s easier said than done, but it would seem that stability, balance, and fall protection work would be prudent for most everyone, young to old:

Glad she’s OK!!

Appreciate it. And I hear you. Problem for Sue was it was chilly last night and she was walking with both hands in her jeans pockets because her hands were cold. She went down unable to protect her face and head. She even scratched her two front teeth!

Ugh I can’t imagine. I’d be pretty shook up from that.

Hoping the teeth don’t have any other damage!

I fell near the end of an 8 mile hike around 6 years ago. On my face!

Long fairly steep trail about 3 feet wide but pure super light dust - like brown talc. All good but there was a buried root, foot went right under. Probably about 8/10 face plant. Face was scratched. Arm bruises.

The embarrassment is real

Didn’t need another brain exam. Tired of those reminders

Sorry to hear about this (just found thread) - but oddly enough - guy at work - walking with hands in pockets - wound up with stitches in his face 🤔
He was on a clean/designated walkway - suddenly face planted just tripping on his own big boots (tall guy) …

I'm glad to hear that she's ok. Well, as ok as you can be after faceplanting!

It might be worth having an X-ray of her teeth to rule out any damage to the root area. (You guys may have already thought of that)

Been there, done that. My issue, a slight crack in the root area, was from pulling a refrigerator back on a dolly and finding out that someone had tossed a 2x4 "sticker' on top of it. It slid off and popped me right in the mouth!
Nothing visible, other than a swollen, bloody lip. I got an X-ray at the dentist's office, where he found the crack. A few years later, it needed to be repaired. (I have an implant there now.)
