I have a new phone suction mount phone for my wife's Hummer. The only good location is on the textured plastic dash. It won't stick there. I am thinking of adhesive metal plate on one side only but having trouble locating. Any ideas. Thanks.

No need for a metal plate, just search online for "dashboard mount disk" or "suction cup pad". They stick to the textured surface and provide a smooth surface for the suction cup.

Thank you. I don't know if this will work because the cup doesn't appear to be removable. I'll check it again.

I prefer to use the Garmin friction mount. Doesn't stick to the dash and you can hide it away when you leave the car. Then you just use the cradle for the friction mount. I like not having anything stuck to the dash or windshield.

Although I guess there are other fiction mounts out there although I haven't used these, I had the garmin mount from before.

Nice!! Thanks!

The mounts that have a gel pad linstead of a suction cup work well on textured and smooth plastic. They are also reusable. You must thoroughly clean the mounting area before you attach the pad.

A standard silicone suction cup has to be just as clean as the surface you attach it to. Clean with dish soap and water and let air-dry. You mentioned a textured mounting surface. You have two options. Attach a mount base, a flat disc, to the dashboard and attach the suction cup to that base. There are two types of mount base. One has double-sided adhesive and is one-time or permanent use and the other type has a sticky gel pad that is reusable. The latter is more expensive. There are also suction cups that have gel-like surface and they will stick to textured surfaces. This is in my opinion the best solution. Search for gel suction cup phone mount.
